DUKES BLUES
R. Lang | Doncaster,, S. Yorks United Kingdom | 04/08/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a very high quality DVD concert, filmed in what looks like
a tv studio.
The German tv show is called OHNE FILTER-MUSIK PUR,and has been brodcast continiously since 1983,and has artists than can
actually play real music, unlike the chart music for kids today.
Artists that play blues, jazz, soul, funk are to be found, and
over 300 bands have performed on this show.
Duke Robillard is a genuine guitar player, and can switch
from blues to jazz to rock in a second.
His version of T Bone Walker's "Glamour Girl" is awesome, even
plays his guitar amazingly behind his head.
Other tracks are LOVE SLIPPED IN, NEVER LET YOU GO, RULE THE
WORLD, GEE I WISH (my favourite), SHE'S SWEET, LIFE'S FUNNY,
WHAT'S WRONG, I THINK YOU KNOW, TOO TIRED.
The concert is one hour long, with an interview with the producer of the tv show,a list of every artist to have appeared,
which includes THE FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS, JETHRO TULL, LOS LOBOS,
RORY GALLAGHER, EDGAR WINTER, SANTANA, to name but a few,and hope that all these artists are released on DVD soon.
If you love the R&B sound, without the frills of light shows,
and special effects,get this disc.
Sure hope someone can release a DVD concert of artists like
ANSON FUNDERBURGH, JIMMIE VAUGHAN, BOBBY RADCLIFF, real artists
who's sounds will live on forever.
Ray."
If you like Jump Blues Buy this DVD

"I got the Duke Robillard in concert DVD today, shortly after ordering it from Amazon.com. This is a great DVD of Duke and his band live. It's taken from a German music show. I'm glad somebody is documenting great musicians like this. They don't here in America. With the exception of PBS shows like Austin City Limits or the BET jazz show theres nothing like this produced in the states. Instead we get a steady diet of Eminem or Madonna. Sad! Anyways this concert DVD is great. The dolby surround sound is mixed well with the guitar and vocals clear and up front. If your more a fan of Blues Rockers like Stevie Ray Vaughan then Duke may not appeal to you, but if you like a more lilting swinging kind of blues then Dukes the man. He's a master at Jump Blues a more jazzy, swinging interpretation. I highly recommend this DVD. My only quibble is there's no interview with Duke on it, but the music more then makes up for it."
A GUITAR MASTER

"First off, I agree with Mr. Lang (another reviewer), we need to see (Anson Funderburgh) & (Bobby Radcliff) on dvd. Anyway, the Duke is awesome here, the quality of sound & picture are excellent, if only it were longer. It's one of those dvd's you can't get enough of. Duke is a master of his skill this is a must have, every one I have turned this masterpiece on to now own it. Wait till you see him play the guitar behind his head awesome, just to watch the close up shot's of him playing, it's amazing."
A Great Player in Need of Greater Recognition
Mr Terry W Boland | Perth, Western Australia | 11/22/2003

"This is a fabulous DVD that captures the amazing talents of a blues/jazz player who deserves greater recognition. Many people might ask Duke who? But the music catalogue is rich and varied from this true master. If you want to sit and watch a player with the ability to reach across the genre this is well worth the purchase. Many in Australia would never have heard of the Duke but his is a talent that needs to be explored by lovers of blues, jazz and swing.A great music experience from a master."
