Excellent Library of Historic Film Footage
Anomaly | United States | 06/20/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I really appreciate this DVD set especially for the incredible historical footage of key times in history. I thought it was extremely well done and the narration was harmonious in presenting the information. This is truly breathaking, especially the early 1900's with all of the inventions if the industrial era.

The film footage also sadly documents the disasters, wars and battles in history at the turn of the 20th Century and beyond including the Depression era.

Watching history on film gave me a new perspective. We're lucky to be able to rely on film whereas prior to it, people only had books and word of mouth to rely on for documenting history. A film libary such as this is unique and worth far more than it's market value. I would highly recommend this DVD set."
Excellent box set!!!

"At first I hesitated in purchasing this box set due to the mediocre review of the individual volume from other shoppers. But I gave in due to the price.

Turns out this is an excellent buy. I have seen the first 3 decades so far. Eventhough these are summaries of major events. I must admit it's still fun to learn about the events and tid bits of the 20th century. It also covers the story behind an event if it needs be. Dating back prior to 20th century. This is excellent. The tin can packaging is great. The companion booklet is even better. My only complaints are the menu looks cheap and a repetitive used of navy footage. I wish there were more events covered if possible. Otherwise this is an awesome deal! Good all around. Especially for the price. Looking forward to the rest of the decades!"
Good collection for history buffs
Old&NewCountryFan | Houston, Texas, USA | 10/07/2008

"Pros.
This five-disc collection is an amazing and moving look back at the 20th century not only in America, but around the world as well. You'll see the funeral of Queen Victoria the Wright Brothers flying their first airplaine in Kitty Hawk, the 1906 San Francisco Eatrthquake, World War I, the Great Depression, WWII, the founding of the United Nations, the Korean War, Sputnik, the Cuban Missle Crisis, JFK's assassination, the Vietnam War, Neal Armstrong landing on the moon, Watergate, Elvis' death. the nuclear accident at Three Mile Island, AIDS, the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, the Challenger explosion, the Berlin Wall's collapse, the Gulf War, the L.A. riots, the Oklahoma City bombing, Priness Diana's death and Bill Clinton's impeachment. However, the booklet that comes with the collection is a tad innacurate because some of the events (Babe Ruth breaking the home run record, the discovery of nuclear fusion, Watson and Crick's discovery of DNA, Mao's Cultural Revolution, Muhammad Ali losing the Fight of the Century etc) are not mentioned on any of the discs. Also, what's a recap of the 20th century without Mickey Mouse in "Steamboat Willie" "Gone With the Wind", Jackie Robinson's first game with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Elvis' debut on the Ed Sullivan Show, Woodstock, the Concorde, the founding of CNN and Microsoft, the Waco cult massacre, Flight TWA 800, the return of Hong Kong to China from the UK and the Columbine High School shootings? All those events impacted the world, too."
