Movie Reviews

Totally disappointing!

"As has been stated before, this video has absolutely nothing to do with the pictures on the box. Moreover, although Gordon Liu (who is usually very good) is listed as the star, he really only plays a minor role in this film.In addition, unless you speak Hong Kong Chinese, the subtitles are virtually useless, since most of them fall off the ends of the screen in this very poorly formatted rendition, and the movie is rather dark and definitely has the quality of low-budget bootleg version (whether it is or not.) This means that it's really hard to tell if the fight sequences are any good most of the time, anyway. The movie you should get is SHAOLIN MASTER KILLER starring Gordon Liu. This was (I believe) originally released in the U.S. as 36th Chamber of Shaolin. I am fortunate enough to live in NYC (stop snickering), which has a number of Chinese movie houses in which I saw that film originally and have seen many of these films in the past.If you really want to see this film, try to rent it. Don't waste money on purchasing it. ....."
NOT The 36th Chamber of Shaulin!!

"Beware this is NOT The 36th Chamber of Shaulin. It is in fact another engish version. If you are looking for the right film, you have to by the one put out by Celestial Pictures. They are like the "Criterion Collection" of asian cinema! NOt only is it the right one, it's widescreen, anamorphic with remastered sound with the dupe taked from the master 36mm film! I'm totally amped that Celestial bought out the whole shaw bros. cataloge. They know how to do justice to these old great films unlike the bad bootlegged copies ather companies put out!"
Don't be fooled...

"If you are looking for the "sequel" to "Shaolin Master Killer", do not buy this video. It is not "Enter the 36th Chamber of Shaolin" or "Return to the 36th Chamber". In fact, none of the pictures that appear on the back of the box are in the movie! The other review got this correct when they pointed out that is a completely different movie called "Disciples of the 36th Chamber," or maybe "Crazy Shaolin Disciples." Unfortunately, I got fooled by the VHS version, but it doesn't look like Xenon has fixed the problem for the DVD release."
Not That Bad

"Not the original Master Killer, and not of that quality...this is still a decent Shaw Brothers movie, with several good fights. It was originally titled Crazy Shaolin Disciples. While that title's not a whole alot better, it was never meant to copy or capitalize on Master Killer. Don't blame the movie for the title it's video distributor gave it."
