Movie Reviews

The Mills....
B. Farrell | Dublin, Rep. of Ireland | 03/06/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Although relentless in his production schedule, Jeff mIlls hasn't given us anything of an official mix since the glory of the Liquid Room days. This DVD / CD release is not so much a welcome return to form but a reminder for those who haven't seen the man live of his inventiveness and dexterity on the decks.
The four multi-angle mixes featured are an excellent showcase for Mills' productions and the final "exhibitionist" mix throws in some crackers from the likes of Ben Sims and Oliver Ho. Although sticking to the one format of simply showing Mills bobbing and nodding behind the wheels while doing his thing, it never gets boring, the rapid changes in mood and colour keeping the viewer/listener's attention.
The downside: NOT the trademark trainwrecks (anyone remember the unholy mess between "Step to Enchantment" and Vigorito's "Knap" at Sonar 2003?), Jeff is human and he needs to be loved. In fact the Wizard's ability to look so unconcerned when there's a little mismatching is impressive.
It's the interview!
Mills is obviously a nice guy, an intelligent, thoughtful individual, but on the aforementioned interview he and his interviewer talk about very little beyond idea and concept and concept and idea for what feels like about three weeks. It's only when he starts to recall the early days of techno and his upbringing in Detroit (and things get interesting) that the interview is cut.
That said the music and (ahem) concept of this DVD are excellent, highly recommended. Oh, and not forgetting a short live segment from the Octave One brothers."
If only Amazon could actually obtain this item

"I would love to see this DVD but despite claims to a 4-5 day shipping time Amazon is unable to obtain this title after several months of delays. It is very frustrating when the shipping estimates are blatantly false and they never seem to be updated with realistic information after an attempt to obtain an item has failed.

At any rate, you can order this DVD directly from Mr. Mills himself via his label (Axis) site: http://www.axisrecords.com/

I'm sure when I eventually get my hands on it the DVD will be a 5 star effort. :)"
