Movie Reviews

Decent fashion TV, not as "hot and provocative" as billed

(3 out of 5 stars)

"This DVD presents what looks to me to be nothing more than an Italian version of a Style Network television show. Produced by Future, srl, Rome, with British narration, the video production of "Exposed: Supermodels Revealed" has the look, the format, and the buzz of something just like "Videofashion!," "Style with Elsa Klensch," or VH-1's "Fashion TV." The only difference is that more of the models' bodies are in view, due to the fact that European television differs from American broadcasting in that it doesn't find bare breasts to be despicable (thus, no "blur screen"). That being said, there's nothing distasteful at all about any of the eleven segments that make up this program. Fashion showcases lots of sheer garments, so what you see-through is what you get. Note: the show was produced in 2000, so you're looking at who/what was hot in fashion at that time:

1. Giselle Bundchen, the still-hot Brazilian top model
2. Italian calendar models, featuring Sabrina Ferilli, considered today's Sofia Loren, and voted as "Dreamwoman" by Italian men; Paola Baralo, an anchorwoman/model who began her career as a double for Madonna; Alessia Marcuzzi; Alessia Merz; Ela Weber
3. Jean Paul Gaultier, designer
4. MOMI, the 2000 lingerie fashion show in Milan
5. Laura Biagiotti, designer
6. Naomi Campbell and her collaboration with photographer Peter Lindbergh
7. Borsalino, design house and seller of fine hats
8. Vanessa Kelly, top model from Australia
9. Nino Cerruti fashion show
10. Claudia Schiffer's return to model BVLGARI jewelry
11. Victoria's Secret fashion show in Cannes

Keep in mind, given a total run time of only 49 minutes, only one of the above scenes lasts for as much as ten minutes. Video quality: not as sharp as I would have liked. The music is typical of a fashion show play list, and the narration is TV-hip, although lots of Italian dialogue requires subtitles (also, there's a menu option which allows you to watch the show with music only). The only extra feature is a short slide show of model photos."
