"i thought this dvd lacked the essence of a real fireplace, too much zooming about with the camera and the quality was just not good enough for my plasma. its been put to the bottom of the pile. overall review... not worthy!!"
Not The One You'll Look at More Than Once!

"The soundtracks are fine, but if you already own a few CDs, you'll expect more than decent audio on this DVD.

But that's about the only thing I can admire about this "Fireplace".

Extremely dark (very hard to see the ceramic gas "logs" that have little pieces of wood pushed in-between them), poorly photographed video that keeps zooming in-and-out (sometimes so far out it's like you're watching from across the room).

I haven't received a copy of the 16:9 anamorphic widescreen Plasmavironments Fireplace DVD yet to try, but of the several I have tried, and given out as gifts, The Happy Holiday Hearth (4:3 only) is hands-down the favorite; and this one doesn't even come close."
Perfectly Relaxing

"If you only want to see a fireplace in the same setting the entire time, this might not appeal to you. If you enjoy a creative approach to fireplace watching and you don't intend to focus on watching the entire time, then it is a series of relaxing fireplace scenes. The music is definitely the highlight and all the tracks seem very enjoyable if you love classical music with a romantic appeal.

The Audio Selection is in German, English, French or Spanish. You can easily choose from:

Classical Dream Melodies
Chill Out Lounge
Jazz Club
Open Fire Solo

Storm Sequence - Sounds of nature...rain, insects, thunder. It is like being at a cabin
in the woods. Turn up the sound to really hear the fire crackling. If you love thunderstorm CDs, this will be enjoyable.

The fireplace is somewhat smoky at the start, like when you start a fire, but soon turns into a blazing fire.

My thoughts on the matter of the zooming in and out are that this is not like a movie; you won't be sitting and watching the screen the entire time. It is more for atmosphere and it provides great atmosphere and relaxing soundtracks. The best soundtracks are the ones with music and it is pleasant to read books while this is playing. My kitten Meesa thought this was like a kitten spa vacation. I put the computer screen near her kitten bed and she fell asleep instantly (after yawning once), as if it was a real fireplace.

I think the music was soothing and the crackling sounds of the fire had a comforting effect. The room also darkens and they get close enough to the fire so you can see the wood grain. The actual fireplace reminds me of some magical castle fireplace and not at all like the picture shown on the cover. More like a fireplace you would find at a lodge in the mountains than a lounge. This is more realistic than our gas fireplace and sets a more relaxing mood. The sound quality also seems perfect, especially when played through a stereo system.
