"I never thought that something like this could finally came out of the vaults to find its way to my library! An old concert from George Benson in Montreaux! The year was 1986. I never even dreamed to own something like this. The moment I saw this dvd in my cd shop I had to own it, so I did buy it immediatly. What is it all about? George Benson the best living jazz guitarist playing with a small-big band in Montreaux a set of standards and old favorities of his. Nothing less than fantastic! He was in splendid shape, at the top of his game. Young and charismatic. He delight us with burning bop licks and tender lines with the guitar and then he sings like the best with a voice which is nothing less than amazing. George is a master entertainer with a musical talent like noone. As a jazz guitarist myself I really really love him and I suggest the purchase of this dvd to every fan of the Jazz guitar and of good music in general. The program is as i said earlier, based on old favorites of his (Love ballad, Never give up on a good thing, Weekend in L.A. etc), with some standards (I'm in the mood for love etc) ... A must have."
Absolutely priceless.

"George Benson- Live in Montreux, 1986 is Benson at his best! With a running time of 103 minutes or so, this DVD is priceless, and it leaves you wanting more.
First of all, the DVD is very well put together from start to finish. No fillers, no interviews, no talking, just George and the band doing their thing. The video and sound quality is excellent and so is the set list which showcases 18 songs, all superbly done.
Benson even acknowledges then band member, guitarist Michael O'Neill. O'Neill sounds great here in the spotlight and he also spent several years playing in the George Benson camp before going solo. O'Neill's 2000 release "Never Too Late" is sprinkled with a Benson flavor. It is very enjoyable and is definitely worth the purchase.
This DVD is a must for the Benson fans. George delivers 100%, both singing and playing. This one's a keeper! Five stars isn't enough!

Not the better Benson DVD

"This is one "Live At Montreux" series DVD on which the DTS option is poorly engineered so that the 2 Channel PCM option may be preferable to the 5.1 Surround and DTS options for play back. That is certainly the case with my sound system. In this case the center channel (speaker) dominates the rest of the channels.

The picture quality, while acceptable, betrays the age of the concert (1986). On the whole if you need only one George Benson concert DVD for your library Absolutely Live (the Ireland Concert) will be the superior choice, even if Montreux is the more spirited performance."
