A modern-day treatment of Wells' the Invisible Man. Bacon plays the role of the 'mad scientist' who develops the ability to become invisible with a team of research scientists. His dubious morality goes further off the deep end once he experiments on himself. The latter half of the film becomes a cross between Alien (being hunted by something unseen in sci-fi corridors) and any number of psycho-slasher films. Typical of Verhoeven, there are plenty of special effects and explosions as the movie ticks off the checklist of worst things someone could do to others if they were invisible. A serviceable action film despite the predictable elements.

Solid sci-fi horror thriller with Elisabeth Shue, Kevin Bacon, Josh Brolin and others shining. A must watch!
