Movie Reviews

Hopefully a quality version....if it is ever released
Philip A.Cohen | Bay Harbor Islands, Florida United States | 09/24/2009
(3 out of 5 stars)

"After three lengthy release postponements already, it appears increasingly unlikely that this disc will ever be released. The program is a 30 minute Black & White T.V. broadcast, taped in 1967 in the group's hometown ,San Francisco, before the group's major label commercial breakthrough.
I already owned the program on a Rhino label Laserdisc released in the 1980's, and I'm always on the lookout for DVD releases to replace my old Laserdiscs, but my attempts to obtain this Charly label DVD have only ended in frustration with repeated release postponements. Out of interest, I went to the group's website, to see if they had the disc. The surviving group members DO offer their own DVD release of the program(with the original artwork that was used on the original VHS & Laserdisc releases), but unfortunately, the group's release was a mediocre DVD-R, taken from a less than VHS quality source with a pixelated picture and choppiness during rapid movement. If this Charly DVD release doesn't end up materializing, and you already own the VHS or Laserdisc release, my advice is to make your own DVD. The group's own DVD release is poor quality, and who knows what the quality of the Charly label DVD will be, when and if it is released."
