""Little Britain Live"

A Laugh a Minute

Amos Lassen and Cinema Pride

I had heard a lot about "Little Britain" but today was my first chance to watch and I am a hardcore fan now. In fact, I am still laughing as I write this.
BBC Video has just released the live show of some of the funniest skits I have ever seen.
The saga of Little Britain reached a high point in the spring of 2006 when this film was made. After three award winning seasons on the BBC Matt Lucas and David Williams decided to take their comedy antics on the road and it became the most successful comedy tour ever in the United Kingdom. They played to nearly a million people in over 200 shows and they were adored by both the press and the public.
The DVD of their tour was filmed at the Blackpool Opera House in May, 2006. The film contains all of the exuberance and spontaneity of a live performance ad nothing is too sacred for Little Britain to take on. I honestly laughed for a full eighty minutes watching the tour on DVD,
The TV series--all three seasons has already been released on disc and once you come under the spell of Little Britain--Matt and David, you find that they have great talent. They have created characters that are not likely to be forgotten--Vicky Pollard, Carol Beer (the computer says no), Lou and Andy, Bubbles De'Vere, Sebastian and the Prime Minister, Emily Howard (the crap transvestite) and Florence, Daffyd Thomas (the only gay in the village), Marjorie Dawes, Ray Mc Cooney. They are others are all here and they merit great laughs.
Some acts just never do well in live shows but this one is near to perfect. He pace and timing of the characters is absolutely amazing and at times breathtaking. Many of the skits have gay themes and there is a lot of drag which is incredibly funny. The skit with Sebastian and the Prime minister had me holding my sides.
There is something about British humor that tends to be sophisticated but not so here. This is down and dirty fun and is meant to be take that way. Matt and David are incredible comedians and you can't help but laugh with them and at them. What might be offensive in the use of gay stereotypes is in no way offensive--it is pure fun.
The DVD has some wonderful extras including a commentary ad deleted scenes and extended sketches as well as a featurette on the making of the DVD. If you are in need of a good pick up or just want to spend some time laughing, have a look at "Little Britain Live". It will indeed send you into euphoric heights.

More than you might expect...

"This is the live version of Little Britain that played on stages around the UK, which means that the performances were uncensored, but not over the top. All of the favorite skits are represented including a cameo from Anthony Head as the Prime Minister. What is more interesting I found was the parallel story of costar David Walliams' training during the stage tour for an attempt to swim the English Channel for charity and his subsequent successfuly attempt. The DVD is well done with a blend of on-stage performances, off-stage background, and David's training."

"I first heard about these guys in Entertainment Weekly a few years ago so I decided to check season 1 DVD out. I loved them and they seemed to get funnier with each season. A must for any British comedy lovers.
This show has many of the same character they do in their regular show but it's Live.
Great stuff."
They excite my tickle bone!!!

"I am a long time fan of Matt and David's zany characterizations. I prefer British humor to any other in the world! This DVD was the funniest yet! New material not seen in any of their series' episodes was presented during their expertly timed comic performances. They even included unassuming volunteers from the audience in several of their skits and handled other audience hecklers with great aplomb! I laughed all the way though! I won't spoil the end for you, but it goes out with a great big BANG!"
