Gerry and Sylvia Anderson were a whirlwind of creativity for decades, and were mostly known for their Supermarionation productions, which was expressive of their preference for artistic realism and making puppet-filming techniques more and more life-like. Many of their earlier television series are still only available in Region 2 (like Torchy the Battery Boy), so it was nice to see this release across the pond. Most are these selections are pilots for potentially longer running shows. One you'll see is a precursor to their series 'Space Precinct', which remains one of my absolute favorites.
Gerry mentioned on several occasions that he would have preferred to make only live-action shows. However, the use of puppetry and extensive model work enabled some of the coolest vehicle heavy Scifi action and scripts, whereas a live-action production of the same would have cost millions. They did also make a few shows which blended the two together, and, as time moved on, came up with more exciting and imaginative scenarios, which often ended up being unintentionally humorous. Of late, I've been listening to new original audiodramas of the Terrahawks, featuring the original voice actors, produced by Big Finish. These have been a real delight.
