THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO DO THINGS IN SAVANNAH, GEORGIA, THE SAVANNAH WAY. AT LEAST THAT'S HOW THINGS ARE UNTIL A SCANDALOUS MURDER TRIAL LAYS BARE THE SECRETS AND PRETENSIONS THE GENTEELTOWN HOLDS DEAR.

Great acting with Kevin Spacey as an influential southern gentleman who shoots a younger (lover?) while voodoo is constantly a subject in lovely old southern Savannah. John Cusack plays a reporter who comes down from the "big city" to explore the decadence of the old south. Both these actors are well worth the price of admission but then throw in Clint Eastwood's (director) beautiful daughter Alison Eastwood plus other wonderful acting and you have an evenings entertainment well worth watching!

This is a movie I have never grown tired of. I love Savannah, this movie is scenic, it brings you right inside the "Mercer House" - built for General Hugh Mercer, the grandfather of the famous composer "Johnny Mercer". Stroll along Forsyth Park with it's famous cast iron fountain. Bonaventure Cemetery, Lafayette Square. Savannah is full of unforgettable scenes, and voodoo. There are "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" tours, autographed copies of the book. The movie holds close to the book. I am a Kevin Spacy fan, a young Jude Law, the handsome John Cusack falls in love. Jack Thompson is a very entertaining lawyer, he takes his weekend getaway in the middle of a murder trial to "Tybee Island". You'll encounter a drag queen and many homosexual personalities. You will laugh, cry, get a great historic overview of Savannah and it's many seductions. If you've never been, this film may get you to visit. Excellent cast, great story, well developed characters and the famous Savannah customs.

great acting, wonderful story carries the audience with great interest in the sub culture that is Savannah, I had lived in Savannah shortly and came to see quickly that there is a real shadow to the town ...things not done as one might expect elsewhere, but by another less obvious set of values that permeate this story. Chablis, the drag queen to hilarious expression and steals the show for large periods. John Cusack avoids losing his soul to gain the world and Kevin Spacey is the Master whose fall from Grace unfolds with and is handled with GRace.

This is a very unique movie steeped in southern charm and intrigue. Kevin Spacey's portrayal of a "nouveau riche" southern gent of high society with dark personal secrets is very entertaining. John Cusack as the yankee writer visiting from New York is very believable. Irma P. Hall as the quintessential kindly yet mysterious voodoo woman is stellar. Jude Law's performance is adequate for the role. If you've never seen this film or read the book and are in the mood for something vastly different, I highly recommend it.

Well told story & almost as good as the book which is rare. Some real characters here! An unusual mystery. Glad I saw it.

Just weird enough to suit me. Great acting. Lady Chablis stole the show! LOL. Nice commentary on the wealthy and their values.

"This movie moves very slowly and there was a feeling of disconnect between the scenes. I thought one actress overacted when she was explaining the story behind the garden of good and evil. She was trying too hard to appear spooky and mysterious, but ended up appearing silly instead. At the end, when the mystery is finally revealed, it didn't shock me at all. In fact, the person who turned out to be the killer was the same person I suspected early on in the movie. So, despite the interesting title, the movie was anything but. "
