The attractions of pre-code movies are realistic stories with believable characters that talk the way ordindary people talk, not like people in movies. A woman, born to affluence, falls in the love with a working-class guy. The guy warns, "Money means nothing, but the lack of money causes a lot of problems." Against the wishes of her parents and the guy's adult misgivings, they get married. They have to put up with obnoxious neighbors in the Brooklyn apartment because one is the guy's boss. But being polite doesn't help against the boss' malice. Like I said, realistic. Funny moments. Gloria Shea is really cute, Ford is a guy's guy, Kennedy and Oakland as the toxic neighbors perfect. This is the movie for you if you roll your eyes when Ingrid Bergaman in Casablanca says, "Was that cannon fire or is it my heart pounding."

Movie Reviews

Good movie; the usual poor ALPHA copy.

(4 out of 5 stars)

"The plot and actors (especially Gloria Shea) are good. The picture-quality is average. The sound is bad."
