Movie Reviews

Evangelion starts to heat up in Volume 6
nogana_naishi | Calgary, Alberta Canada | 04/11/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Up to this point in the series, Evangelion was, at most, fairly serious. During the first several volumes and episodes, the plot was a mixture of comedy and action. As the story starts to unfold, the plot slowly becomes darker-- Volume 6 is where it becomes apperant that this is change is permanent. In episode 18, Toji has been seleceted as the fourth child, although Shinji is yet unaware. An angel that has been sleeping inside of Toji's EVA for some time awakens during an activation test with Toji still inside, and NERV calls in Units 00, 01 and 02 to destroy it. It is a very important episode in which many important plot details are explained, including foreshadowing into what EVA really is.Episode 19 is one of the most important episodes in the series, finally revealing to us what EVA is, and what a bombshell it is. After his father forces him to nearly kill Toji, Shinji quits NERV. Meanwhile, the 14th angel attacks and Units 00 and 02 are no match for it alone. Shinji has no choice but to return. But during the battle, something horrifying happens...In Episode 20, the aftermath of the previous battle leaves Shinji with a 400% sync rate and his soul absorbed into Unit 01. Now it's a race for time to get him out..."
False labels

"The last couple Eva Platinum DVDs have been falsely labeled. In the review it says that Episodes 18-20 are on this disc, while in reality they are on disc 5. The episodes on this disc are 21, 22, and 23.

Don't get me wrong, the reviews are great. They're just for the wrong disc. Maybe Amazon will catch the error and fix it. Maybe."
Let the beserker do the dirty work!

"This is the best part of the series, however, ADV didn't do justice on the DVD either. The picture is somewhat hazy, and the English dubbing isn't up to par. The voices of the characters are kind of bland. I've seen the entire TV series on KTEH (a PBS station in San Jose). I like the Japanese version a lot better, just turn on the English subtitle and watch the entire thing. In the Japanese version when Shinji screams in terror, it makes your skin crawl."
Here we go!
Godzilla | Henderson, Nevada United States | 04/02/2001

"Okay people, for those of you who don't know already, this is where the the proverbial poop hits the fan, and let me tell ya, it hits hard. For those of you who thought Eva was some kinda kiddie mecha action show, this is where you get proven wrong. All comedy and fun is checked at the door and the real story begins to unfold. Seele and Gendo's true plans begin to unveil and our characters start thier long, painfull spiral into the blackness. But trust me, it gets worse though; just wait for Manga's release of The End of Evangelion this summer and you'll see what I mean."
