"One might expect this to be a cheap rip off of DAY AFTER TOMORROW, which it isn't, but it's not a great movie in its own right, merely passable entertainment. A comet crashes into the European countryside, sending that part of the world into a frozen wasteland. Now three years PI (post impact), some crazy person is using a satellite to "control the world"---for what reasons we're never sure of. But macho hero Dean Cain leads a group of soldiers into a frozen Berlin where the satellite is being controlled, in efforts to stop the madman from destroying more cities. The CGI effects are fair to middlin, but the plot is slow moving and there aren't that many surprises in store. There have been a lot worse movies in this genre, but there have also been so many better."

"From a first look 'Post Impact' might appear as a cheap imitation of 'The Day After Tomorrow.'

While it contains elements from 'The Day After Tomorrow' it's an entirely different movie and in some aspects better than 'The Day After Tomorrow.'

The movie's CGI and Special Effects are by 'Hollywood' standards 'B' but in terms of storyline I found it superior than 'The Day After Tomorrow.'

It's a good European production that had a strong element of realism and wasn't strung together either by 'ooh' and 'aah' explosions, excessive sex or violence or mind numbing amount of sepcial effects and CGI.

I recommend to everyone to watch 'The Day After Tomorrow' and then watch 'Post Impact' and compare the two, you might be surprised.

Thank you for your time and I give inspirational and written credit to the poster before me who expressed his/her opinion about the misconception that 'Post Impact' is a 'cheap' imitation of 'The Day After Tomorrow.'"

"Who finances these movies? You know the movies. The ones that look like they had a decent budget but the script was so badly written that you're positive you could have done better. Well, this is one of them. I'm a huge fan of the apocalypse/post-apocalypse genre, as well as anything sci-fi, but so many of them are killed by bad scripts, bad science, and bad acting. This movie happened to have absurd props too, despite the aforementioned decent budget. If I as a highschool dropout can point out technical and scientific flaws every few minutes, isn't something wrong? A pillar of ice poking through the bottom steel plate of a tank?!?! A satellite which was meant to beam microwave power to a ground station being in a non-geosynchronous orbit? People shrugging off gun shot wounds like they're scratches. Military personel bickering like teenagers? I really should move to wherever they're making these films because apparently they can benefit from my middle school education. It really breaks my heart when someone has the money to make a decent sci-fi movie, and they pay so little attention to things that cost no money to fix."

"I really like this kind of movie. It has all that you look for in a good B movie. Obviously low budget writing, sets, saved by good actors doing a competent job. So if you like a fun B/TV movie then this is the one for you."

Nifty bit of sci-fi hokum that isn't rocket science

"Nifty bit of sci-fi hokum that you can watch on a dull evening when there's nothing else on TV.

Dean Cain is okay as soldier Tom Parker trying to get back to his family in Berlin after a Meteor strike has left the earth covered in ice and snow.

When a military command centre realises that a long forgotten experimental satellite is still operational, an expedition is set up to find the base from where it is controlled which just happens to be in what is now known as the "death zone" a place that was once Europe.

However it soon becomes clear that the Satellite is under hostile control and the first expedition is wiped out but the second one manages to make it to Europe and so begins a long trek across ice and snow to find out who or what is controlling the satellite.

When the expedition finally get to Berlin, Parker and his colleagues, all military except for one female scientist Anna Starndorf played by little known actress Bettina Zimmerman find that a group of survivors have made a new home in the subway system of the former German city. Anna like Park is trying to find out if her family, i.e. her father (also a scientist) survived the deep freeze and to her joy she finds out he is among the survivors.

However nothing is what it seems, and we have quite a few surprising twists and turns in the plot before the satellite it is back under friendly control and Parker can finally find out what happened to his wife and daughter.

The special effects are mediocre, the acting average and we have the orphaned girl that Anna and Parker take under their wing along the way with a loveable husky called Sass who saves the day on quite a few occasions so all in all it is a movie that you could call cheesy.

Despite this I enjoyed watching this movie; it was easy to get into, had a twist in the tale and also had a nice happy-ever-after ending that few movies now-a-days have which I liked being the big softie that I am."
