Movie Reviews

Bad picture quality, but still worth watching

"RETURN OF THE LEG FIGHTER (1976), better known as Knife Of Devil's Roaring and Soul Missing, and also known as Thunderblade and Lightning Foot-

This is an odd low budget Wuxia that is confusing at times, but it kept me entertained all the way through. The fighting is surprisingly good and there is lots of it. Basically the story is about an evil man called the Devil Swordsman who wants revenge. 20 years before the movie takes place all of the clans of the martial world grouped together to get rid of the Devil Swordsman. They thought they killed him, but he has come back for revenge. Dorian Tan's father is killed by the Devil Swordsman, so now he wants revenge. Doris Lung, some drunken guy, and a couple other guys help him out. There are twists and turns all throughout the movie, and I was surprised at how entertained I was by it all.

The action is not great, but still pretty good. Dorian Tan gets to show off his amazing kicks quite a bit, Lo Lieh has a couple of good fights, and Doris Lung looks good in her limited action. The final fight is a bit of a letdown because it is not very long, but it is still a fun scene.

3/5

The picture quality is bad but watchable. It is partly widescreened. The voice acting is done by English speaking Chinese people, except for Dorian Tan's voice. Tan is dubbed by the guy who did Hiroyuki Sanada's voice in Ninja in the Dragon's Den. This guy is a great voice actor. Some people may remember this line- "If the shoe fits, where it baby".

SHANGHAI GIRL BOXER (1974) aka Brave Girl Boxer in Shanghai-

The movie starts off with Doris Lung looking for her brother's killer. She meets Man Kong Lung and they try and figure out how catch the killer. So how do they catch him? Using their fists of course! This movie has nonstop quality basher action. Doris Lung didn't have many lead roles in her career, and after seeing this movie I really have to wonder why. She is very petite, but she can hold her own against just about anybody. She fights everyone she meets, including a gang of karate students who carry around hatchets. And Man Kong Lung is at his best in this movie. There is undercranking used, but Man Kong Kong Lung is still moving very fast. If you like old school bashers, then this is highly recommended. The movie is fun all the way through, but gets darker as it goes along. Good movie.
