An early milestone in urban TV comedy, "SANFORD AND SON" was an immediate critical and audience favorite when it debuted in the early '70s, signaling the arrival of one of TV's most memorable characters: Cantankerous-bu... more »t-lovable junk dealer Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx). An African American answer to "Archie Bunker," widower Sanford and his "Dummy" son Lamont (Demond Wilson) run a family junk business in Watts, dreaming up schemes to strike it rich. Outspoken and outrageous, Sanford serves up big laughs as he skewers stereotypes, forever threatening, "How'd you like one across your lip?" Aided by a colorful cast that includes acid-tongued Aunt Esther (LaWanda Page), "SANFORD AND SONS" provided a showcase of black talent of all generations, freaturing guest stars like Lena Horne and episodes written by Richard Pryor. Timely and topical during its highly-rated five-year run (1972-1977), "SANFORD AND SON" emerged as one of the decade's biggest TV hits, inspiring producer Norman Lear to develop more barrier-breaking shows like "The Jeffersons" and "Good Times".« less

"Finally! The Second Season of Sanford & Son is here! It wasn't that long ago when Season One came out, but the wait felt like forever...this show is just too funny! Now we get more Sanford & Son than before, but at the same price! (Season 2 has 24 episodes spread over three discs and Season 1 had 14 on two discs) Season 2 ran from September 1972 to March 1973 and introduces new classic characters like Bubba (Don Bexley), Julio (Gregory Sierra), Rollo (Nathaniel Taylor), and of course Aunt Esther (LaWanda Page). Don't worry, Officer Smitty and Melvin are still here. Redd Foxx only becomes more hilarious as Fred and his chemistry with Demond Wilson (Lamont) makes you think they really are father & son. What's more, the digital transfer is great considering this is 1970s TV at the push of a button. No more commercials and in chronological order! Can't wait for Season 3, when we're introduced to Grady (Whitman Mayo) and treated to much more Aunt Esther! Looking forward to the release of the remaining four seasons (including Season 3) which will complete the total Sanford & Son series (6 Seasons total). It will be great to have the complete collection. Don't be a "big dummy"...buy this today! Season 2 consists of the following episodes:Disc One:

"More unforgettable episodes.01. The Light Housekeeper: When Fred feigns injury, Lamont gets a housekeeper that is lazier than Fred. 02. Blood is thicker than Junk: Lamont wants to prove he is able to make it on his own, Fred is too proud to admit he needs Lamont. By the end, they both hilariously proclaim they are right as they get back together.03. By the Numbers: Dreaming up lottery numbers, Fred decides to take a trip to Vegas, only to have family and friends suddenly have a string of bad luck that requires his winnings to fix.04. Card Sharps: Fred tries to educate Lamont on the way cardsharks operate. Ron Glass gives a great pre-Barney Miller performance.05. Whiplash: Hit by a white man in a black cadillac, Fred thinks he is sitting on a gold mine.06. Have gun, will Sell: An attempted robber is foiled when Lamont comes home early. In his escape, the robber drops a gun that Rollo convinces Lamont and Fred to sell.07. The Dowry: Cousin Grady (not the same Grady as the later episodes) comes to visit from St. Louis with his new wife and overweight stepdaughter. When Fred learns she gets a good chunk of change upon marriage, he sets up Lamont, but Lamont has the last laugh.11. The Puerto Ricans are coming: Another Pre-Barney Miller actor Gregorio Sierra was a long time regular and the even tempered neighbor that showed Fred's racist side. The list goes on and on. This is a worthwhile collection for fans of the series as well as the younger generation."

"What's funny is that as I tried to get the 1st season, they were sold out so I got the second season and get this; I got more than what I asked for. Getting three discs with some 20something episodes, I felt like I put TV Land out of business with my own S&S marathon. These discs have parts I didn't even know were on the original shows so that was a treat within itself. Seeing the introduction of Rolo was a big laugh. I thought I would never stop laughing. These episodes are like fine liquor, they only get better with age. I had a little trouble playing the episodes one right after the other but that was fixed with a minor adjustment on my DVD player, so like I said, no commercial interruptions and hours of Sanford along with the right adult beverage, oh man, almost as good as -- well not that good but still a close 10th."
