This movie was cobbled together from two separate Alan Furst novels, Spies of Warsaw and The Polish Officer, and they weren't fitted together very well. There is some added material about Mercier's love interest Anna Szarbek. Half a dozen of the best character actors in Europe and the UK are in it. The scenery is real. The period recreation is very good. Taken all together, though it's not a very good movie -- it seems disjointed -- it is oddly watchable. I wish they'd film another Alan Furst novel but stick to its book instead of padding for time.
