Movie Reviews

Finally on DVD!!
M. Svetinsky | Los Angeles | 11/22/2005

"We've waited a long time for Suzanne to put out a concert video, and this one does not disappoint. I've seen her live 3 times, and she is a captivating performer. On this DVD, Suzanne seems a bit detached from the Montreaux audience, and I think the chemistry might have been better with a U.S. audience. But even so, the intimacy is there.

The sound is very good (thanks DTS 5.1), but not great like the West 54th Sessions concert. I really wish they would put that entire performance on DVD (& every other Session @ West 54th for that matter). Suzanne's band has always been top notch. They're cool when they need to be, and they can rock when they need to. I'm especially enamored of bass player Mike Visceglia. He lays down some of the coolest bass lines i've ever heard.... and looks cool doing it!

This concert DVD is a real treat. Suzanne looks and sounds wonderful, and delivers a great performance. Some things could have been done better, but I still give it 5 stars."
This is a Must!

"Suzanne Vega Live At Montreax 2004 is a must if you like Suzanne Vega. She is in good form, looks healthy, tries to include the audience in her performance and the song selection is well chosen. She makes a brave attempt to cover The Who's "Behind Blue Eyes." The only weakness seems to be her band (particularly the bassist) sometimes seem to over power her vocal. The best moments are are when Suzanne solos or plays with just one band member or when her guitar is the dominate insturment."
Suzanne Vega Live in Concert!

"This is a really Europien tour. "Live at Montreux"-Jazz, in Switzerland! This concert is "free and easy" with full living moments. The music is so fantastic and so timeless. The old songs are in new dresses. Sometimes the DVD's sound is weak, maybe at Suzanne solos, but the trio's sound with Suzanne is so dazzling. Drummer Doug Yondell and bass player Mike Visceglia are very attractive. Electric guitarist Billy Masters is masterful and a good choice. The last song is a jazz standard, because this is Montreux! and Suzanne is a good jazz singer too.

Suzanne Vega is still a singer-songwriter Queen!

Buy this DVD, highly recommended!"
A Must For Fans

"I've always been enamored of Suzanne Vega's intelligent, anecdotal songwriting and feathery, waif-like delivery. The songs here are impeccably performed with a mostly restrained but expert and well-rehearsed backing trio of guitar, bass, and drums. On only one tune is there the industrial backing rhythm which was indicative of a few of her recordings from the '90s. Vega exudes a genial presence with the enthusiastic late-night Montreux audience.

What stands out is the fine high-definition camera work as well as the transparent post-editing which lends a most appropriate viewing ambience and rhythm to the performances. Close-ups are steady and crystal clear. The set is lengthy enough to make for a fine DVD document that should please all fans."
