A suspenseful and gripping psychological thriller, Lynne Ramsay's We Need To Talk About Kevin explores the fractious relationship between a mother and her evil son. Tilda Swinton, in a bracing, tour-de-force performance, plays the mother, Eva, as she contends for 15 years with the increasing malevolence of her first-born child, Kevin (Ezra Miller). Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, We Need To Talk About Kevin explores nature vs. nurture on a whole new level as Eva's own culpability is measured against Kevin's innate evilness. Ramsay's masterful storytelling simultaneously combines a provocative moral ambiguity with a satisfying and compelling narrative, which builds to a chilling, unforgettable climax. 0 of 1 member(s) found this review helpful. (Verzuvei) from YUKON, OK Reviewed on 6/25/2013... Within the first 2 minutes of the movie, I almost turned it off. I thought it was just too weird. However, I kept watching, and in no time it grabbed my attiontion and I had to keep watching. It's one of those movies where you watch through flashbacks, and although I really don't like that format, it worked well with this one. The acting is brilliant, and even the younger boys who portray Kevin look like they could be his real-life brothers. Tilda Swinton is amazing in her role as the frustrated mother who tries to love this boy as much as she knows how. Trouble is, she is just "trying", and he sees through that. I appreciate the fact that there wasn't a lot of gorey imagery, and your mind is left to make up your own images, which can sometimes be more frightening. All in all, I think it was a pretty good movie. 1 of 2 member(s) found this review helpful.
