"Sadly, kindergarten competition has forced parents to shift their priority from character development to academic development.
While there are many preschool products on the market that teach reading and number skills, surprisingly few teach social skills. We believe playground performance is just as important as classroom performance. After all, there isn't a job that doesn't require good social skills. These are learned at a very yound age and influence both academic and personal success.
TimeOut Tot first shows a child making a mistake - performing "inappropriate" behavior. Then Tot shows the same child performing appropriate behavior. In doing this, the difference between the "right" and the "wrong" choice is clearly defined for the child.
Before your child watches TimeOut Tot alone, sit down and watch the lessons together at a time when you can dedicate a half-hour of uninterrupted "quality" time with your child. Curl up on the sofa together and take turns pretending you are in a timeout. Approach it much like you would reading a book, using the pause button on your remote to stop and talk about the mistakes the other boys and girls have made, why that behavior was inappropriate and what they could have done differently. Taking this step ensures that your child understands the lessons. Do not allow your child to watch the lessons alone until you feel your child understands them." - from accompanying materials
