Oh how wonderful it is to share this wholesome show with my daughter. She loves it just as much as I did when I was a kid. Teddy Ruxpin is a delight to watch, and each episode teaches a valuable lesson. I just love Grubby! I highly recommend this cartoon for children ages 4-8 and for those of us over 30. :0)

I have to admit, I was devastated by the ending, however, that's looking at it from my personal perspective, not Dexter's. Dexter did what he thought was right in his mind based on his warped logic. I think the writers did a good job wrapping up the series in true Dexter fashion.

I picked this up at a second-hand store not expecting much, but I was surprised and intrigued by this show. It develops the characters in a very candid, realistic, raw way. Some of the situations shocked me, others made me laugh or cry, and yet others hit home. The main characters are friends who have finished college but haven't yet figured out who they really are or found their way in life. It is about the day to day struggles dealing with relationships between friends, lovers, parents, co-workers, and so much more. All of the characters have emotional flaws that make them so much more realistic. Being an HBO show, there is nudity and sexual encounters.

This is a stunning dvd narrated by Glenn Close.

Description from Amazon.com:

Former actor Yann Arthus-Bertrand directed this visually astonishing portrait of the Earth as seen from mesmerizing aerial views. Home is not the first documentary to survey our planet from the air, but Arthus-Bertrand brilliantly and dreamily captures the miraculous linkage within delicate eco-systems. For viewers whose eyes glaze over at descriptions of the way Earth recycles energy and matter, Home underscores the beautiful and awesome reality of that complex process. Narrated by actress Glenn Close (in this English-language version), Home begins by exploring and clarifying the natural history of water, sunlight, and the role simple life-forms such as algae played (and still play) in making the planet hospitable to more evolved, living things. As the film moves along, it also has a way of rebooting one's lazy assumptions about familiar phenomena. The Grand Canyon, for example, might be a fantastic sight to behold, but it's also a collection of billions and billions of shells compressed under Earth's oceans long ago. The carbon trapped in the Grand Canyon was drained from the atmosphere, helping--once again--oxygen-dependent life to develop.

Similarly, plant life, Home tells us, broke up the water molecule and released oxygen into the atmosphere. Everything is linked, everything is part of a grand machine--the film makes this clear in scores of ways, and not just by telling us. Arthus-Bertrand reveals the intricate, breathtaking designs and patterns of glaciers feeding rivers, of animals feeding on plant life so more plant life can grow, of Australia's great Coral Reef's role in keeping the ocean in eco-balance. Of course, a big part of the story is the impact short-sighted humans have on these systems: the way we overfish, or drain deserts of scarce fossil water, or turn non-farming lands into perverse engines for agriculture. There is much to be alarmed at watching Home, but there is much to move one as well. --Tom Keogh

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. It really shows how diverse our nation is, and yet, how we are all interlinked. The film manages to do this in a comical, entertaining way, which is what makes it so great. Definitely a must-see.

(The Editorial Review above is not from this DVD.) Description from box: Were they terrorists or just greedy plunderers? Rebels or just bloodthirsty rogues? You'll find out in this swashbuckling high seas docu-drama! Seeking to pierce this distorting veil created by legend, the unique program captures some of history's most famous pirates through simulated profiles of their darkly adventurous lives. Meet the scruffy Blackbeard, who wasn't satisfied with just raiding ships and robbing towns: his style was to frighten and intimidate as well. You'll also encounter the gentler Captain William Kidd, who became a pirate during a mid-life crisis; the fearsome "Black Bart" Roberts, who-in a pique-burned down a slave ship with 80 people aboard; and two hard-nosed women, Mary Reed and Anne Bonny, who out-plundered and outfought most men-and then used their gender to slip out of the hangman's noose. Honing its air of razor-sharp authenticity, this exciting program tells its stories in some of the same settings where these wolves of the sea lived, fought, and died. EXTRAS: Sir Francis Drake and the Privateers, Captain Morgan and the Buccaneers, and a Feature Film Bonus: Long John Silver's Return to Treasure Island.

I liked the diversity of the actors in this film. Though it is pretty low budget, it was an enjoyable movie. The main character has been in a long-term relationship with his college sweetheart, and they have recently moved in together. He begins to feel trapped and wonders if he is ready to settle down. The story is a little far fetched with the introduction of the limo driver who gives him a free week of rides and offers astrological love advise, but overall, it had its charms as a Saturday night chick flick and ties the story together in the end. The acting is not top notch, but it is far from the worst I've seen.

Absolutely the raunchiest movie I have ever seen. NOT appropriate for children of any age. Full of vulgar language and base acts. Sexual innuendo throughout with full out orgies, homosexual acts, and more. The premise for this movie had so much promise. I enjoy parody movies, and some foul language and adult situations, but this was way beyond that. I was mortified watching it.

First off-if you are thinking of watching this because you are a dachshund lover, this is NOT the movie for you. Watch "Wiener Dog Nationals" instead.

Spoiler alert--I've very loosely outlined the stories below. Do not read, if you think it will spoil the movie for you.

This movie is comprised of four vignettes and focuses on the very flawed, depressed people and their relationships rather than focusing on the dog. It is a very dark, subdued introspective dramady.

The movie opens with the wiener-dog being adopted by a family with a son who the story implies is in remission from cancer. The parents are very strict, and it is a very strained story where the child feeds the dog granola, and the dog gets very sick. The father takes the dog to be put to sleep, and there is awkward conversation between the mother and son about death.

The assistant at the vet steals the dog (leading us into the second vignette), and she ends up on a road trip with an unsavory man. Along the way, they pick up a Mariachi band. They end up leaving the dog with the man's brother.

After a comical original song during "intermission" the story jumps to a vignette with Danny DeVito as a depressed college professor and screenwriter who can't get seem to get a break with his agent. The students think he's a joke, and he is on the verge of losing his job. He commits an unspeakable travesty with the dog as a pawn.

The last vignette shows an old woman with the dog in her house. Her niece visits with her artist boyfriend and asks for money. There is some obvious foreshadowing in their conversation, and after the niece leaves, the woman sits outside with the dog and dreams of how her life could have been different. When she awakes, she finds the dog missing and ultimately witnesses its demise.

This movie is not for everyone. If you like dialogue-driven, exaggerated cerebral dark ironic comedy, give this a shot. If you like more mainstream films, I'd say pass on this one.
