The very definition of harrowing - in fact that word only begins to describe it. An absolutely incredible tale, and all the more so because it is apparently true. Intense, painful to watch, yet uplifting. Incredible acting across the board. I was left breathless and in awe.

"This is dragging on too long." It's dialogue spoken in the movie that describes it perfectly. The repetition is annoying and unnecessary, and the story seriously takes forever to move forward. Some filmmakers have so little to say or show you that they fill the screen with slow lingering shots of nothing particularly important or even beautiful. It's just filler and it's dull to sit through while waiting for something to happen.

Endless and pointless profanity, and a camera that never stops moving, like the cameraman was on 10 cups of coffee. Unwatchable.

Unpleasant is how I would describe this film. The characters are unpleasant and the story is fairly dull. As much as I wanted to know what happened to the missing daughter I couldn't sit and take any more unpleasantness.

By far this has the dumbest premise I think I've ever seen. I can't believe Sigourney Weaver fell this far. Sad.

Meryl Streep is astonishing! Some movies and stories are meant to be heart wrenching and unpleasant. Some might feel this movie is too negative or harsh but that's the kind of story these people wanted to tell. Yes sometimes entertainment can be dark and uncomfortable, but the magic is that you don't want to look away despite that.

There's a reason this movie is nearly 2 hours long; every single moment is long and drawn out for absolutely no reason. Over-use of slow motion, conversations that plod along, a storyline that could have been summed up in 30 minutes. I hit fast forward a great deal because i got tired of nothing slowly happening. Nothing. No amount of cameos made a bit of difference. After an hour there was a fight scene that lasted approximately 30 seconds and then it was fillowed by a conversation with little substance. Jusr plain boring.

Bad writing. Bad use of a truly talented actor. Bad holes in the plot line, and really bad behavior from the characters. Yep, it was definitely bad. The only good thing I got out of this movie was seeing shots of Portland, Oregon that I recognized. If that's the best a film has to offer, well, you know how low to set your expectations.

I think that even if I had gone into this without any expectations I would have been disappointed. It's a very uninteresting tale, though I admit I gave up after only 20 minutes. The acting is fine, it just felt like the story was going nowhere at a pace too slow for me to enjoy. Colin Farrell whining about his lost friendship wasn't very entertaining, and whoever did his makeup needs to find new employment because his face was often 3 different colors at the same time. I suppose the film could have gotten much better but I simply could not get invested in the characters, or their plight. Now I'm going to go watch "In Bruges" to remind myself why I had such high expectations to begin with.

As far as dialogue goes this movie was a no-brainer. An hour of people just calling out each others names gets really damn old. I can just envision the casting call; "Are you able to yell out the same name over and over again for the length of an entire movie while looking and sounding scared? If so, we have the perfect part for you..." I'm starting to think anything with a good Rotten Tomatoes rating is worthless.

After 20+ minutes of basically nothing happening, and the cameraman's inability to hold the camera still for more than a few seconds, I turned this movie off. Maybe it was going somewhere amazing - I don't know - I just know the constant shaking of the camera was both irritating and nauseating, and the fact that each scene just seemed to slowly unfold into nothing got to me. Good luck to anyone who tries to watch this.

I thought this was a pretty weak film. It definitely had a weak, unsatisfying, dare I say cheap ending. Hayek's character, though passionate about her point of view, shows herself to be fairly weak and ineffective. There is one redeeming point, though weakly made, that it is more difficult to heal or take care of something than it is to destroy it but that was the only point in which I thought this movie had something worth offering. It wasn't really entertaining, often uncomfortable, and did a clumsy job of driving the oh-so-obvious point home. I expected more from the excellent cast and got less.

Overly long, meandering, incomprehensible at times, boring at others. I understand and enjoy absurdist/abstract/difficult/artistic movies, and the first maybe 30 minutes were indeed engaging (though a bit staged) but then it just kept dragging on. Rarely did I feel sucked into, or immersed in, the moment. Quite often I longed to press the fast forward button, or at least mute the constant whining of Mr. Phoenix.

So it's a bit about incest apparently, though that was pretty obvious in the first 30 minutes. Once I gave up and DID start skipping chapters I ran into a section where it sounded like the voice of his mother was either talking to him, or narrating, I'm not sure. Her pace was much like the movie; slow, boring. I kept skipping chapters/scenes and it was just the same slow, nothing going on. It wound up being yet another movie I gave up on.

I enjoyed Hereditary immensely, and remain hopeful Midsommar is good, but after Beau is Afraid I have doubts, and won't be as excited to hear he's made a new flick in the future.

Sad and incredibly inspirational. The things we do, no matter how seemingly insignificant, and the person we are will have an impact on more people in our lives than we'll ever know. It's never too late to make changes for the better so don’t hesitate to start right now.

A dark and terrible time in the history of Ireland, told with unflinching brutality and honesty. The sort of film that makes wading through all the other garbage I've seen lately worthwhile. An incredible story, superb acting, and an eye for authenticity. Highly recommended.

Not very good at all. I seriously can't believe such terrible writing and storytelling is still seen as worthy of praise. Joe Hill is no Stephen King that's for sure.

Good, profane, lowbrow comedy with heart. This is NOT a family movie, it's called Cock Blockers so you should know what to expect going in. If the amount of honest laughter I experienced was any indication, this is a fantastically foul romp!

Do you like to watch people walk? How about the view of their shoes as they climb stairs over and over again? The attempt to make this look like it was one long uninterrupted shot is actually quite distracting, and for an action movie I found it incredibly boring. The acting is sub par, as is some of the camera work. I gave up about halfway through.

I don't know that I'll ever understand the thinking behind taking every scene and making it painfully slow and drawn out. It makes a film dull, not dramatic. Perhaps these people have a 30 minute story they need to turn into 90 minutes - I can't say for sure. Eventually it becomes tiresome and I just want to get it over with. This is one of those films.

Much like the first season, I gave up on season 2 because it went from interesting to boring, and the camera operator couldn't seem to hold the camera still. I grew tired of watching scenes drag out and having to dart my eyes back and forth across the screen repeatedly while a character stood still and didn't even say anything. The constant movement does not enhance my experience, nor does it make the action (or lack of it) any more exciting or interesting. So I gave up at about episode 3, which means I gave up a bit sooner than I did on season 1, but not much. Another viewing and storytelling experience ruined by terrible pacing and poor (yet intentional) camerawork.
