While I agree with the spoiler review, I have a different take on the film. The title implies the film is about the descendents of Native Hawaiians, but the people portrayed in the film do not have anything in common with Native Hawaiians, with the one exception of the portrait on the wall of an Hawaiian princess of whom they are the descendents. Clooney's character lives in a mansion, while living Native Hawaiians do not. I seem to recall seeing one Native Hawaiian in a pan shot. Their absence in the film is telling. The ceremony performed in the bonus material I suspect is bogus. I lent the film to native friend who lived in Hawaii and asked whether or not the ceremony was authentic. She said no. The dancers are Polynisian rather than Hawaiian. I wanted to like this movie, but for all of these reasons, plus quite a few of the same reasons as the spoiler review addresses, I do not.

I rented this movie because of all the hype it got, I must say this movie was awful not one of George Clooney's better movies. The movie started and it went downhill from there it had two bratty kids in it and who did nothing but swear and give the middle finger. It did not accomplish much and focused mostly on the mother being in a comma and her husband trying to find the man she was cheating on him with. I don't see how this movie could win any awards they must have been sleeping through the movie and missed all of it because this movie was just that boring. It is very long and nothing seems to happen worth watching you will find your self bored and looking at the clock to see what time it is. When the wife finally dies
they decide to put her ashes in the pacific and it ends with the most odd ending ever all 3 sitting eating ice cream? what does that have to do with anything? It makes no sense to end the movie like that what about the land? what happened to the kids? what happened to Clooney? They could have done such a better job with the ending then they did.

If this sounds like something you want to watch then by all means watch the movie but I would not waste $5.95 on a credit to own this movie if you really want to see it I suggest renting it through blockbuster or netflix or even from the library. This is not something I would ever consider a movie I would sit and watch over and over again.
