What a hidden gem! I was apprehensive about this one...that it might be another Top Gun or too much fighter pilot fighting, but it was neither. It's actually a great family movie with a lot of life lessons.

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and I'm sure you will too.

An all-star cast of characters, many young when this was made that delves into the life of a fighter pilot. A must watch!

This is a powerful drama that holds up well even though it was made in 1979. A coming-of -age story based on the book of the same name by Pat Conroy (The water is wide, The Lords of discipline, Beach music). The father in the movie is based on Conroy's own strict military father. Robert Duvall is wonderful -- he was nominated for Best Actor for his role in the film as was Michael O'Keefe for best supporting actor. A must see movie -- if you somehow missed this one -- or were too young when it came out, it is certainly worth watching.
