"I've read the comics and watched the cartoon and I say they're pretty much equal. Both for different reasons but the bottom line is this cartoon rocks! It's so dark, the voice acting is great, the story follows very closey to the original comic version (although there are subtle and rather minor changes), and the animation is great. If you like the comic, you'll probably like these episodes. On a side note, this cartoon in no way is represented by the pile of crap that was thrown on the movie screen how ever long ago. Let's hope the rumours of a Todd McFarlane supervised Spawn movie are true."
The best Spawn movie ever!

"Todd McFarlane's Spawn is a great adaption from the comic book series. It captures the dark images, and mystical power. The inferno of Hell shrouds Al Simmons giving him these powers! Unlike the live movie, Al Simmons is already a Hellspawn. But he is tormented by thoughts of his death, five years ago. I like the parts when Spawn kills people, that is cool. I would not recommend this movie to people under 18, because there is much...blood and gore, bad language, and adult content. I have got every censored and uncensored version of Spawn. This one deserves an NC-17 rating, at least that's what I think. Spawn is a very cool movie, throughout the movie it mostly takes place at night, and you can't see Spawn very well sometimes, except for his eyes and cape. Otherwise the rest of him is just mostly a cilouet. The edited version is about half as good as this one, only many people do prefer the uncensored versions of just about every movie. The live movie is very good too. In the animated series, it never actually shows Malebulgia, or you could call him Satan. And it even shows Angela, one of the Hellspawn Bounty Hunters. And in Spawn 3, it shows three other Bounty Hunters. Including Jade, she's pretty cool. Also in Spawn 3, Spawn battles a vampire prostitute. The fat little clown turns into the violator in this movie, and he beats Spawn up pretty bad. And Spawn actually uses his chains to [exterminate] in the animated Spawn series. He even uses his cape sometimes to choke people. It's very cool, and Spawn has a low, scratchy voice, much different from Michael Jai White in the live movie. Keith David is Spawn's voice in this one. I have no clue how many tapes there are going to be in the animated series, but Spawn 1-3 the only ones right now. This is a great movie, buy it, you'll like it."
Better Than Better

""Todd McFarlane's Spawn" really is Todd McFarlane's Spawn unlike the movie "Spawn" which probably is an insult to the character of Spawn (I feel bad for Todd). This movie (cartoon) is a perfect portrayal of the comic book series Spawn. It contains the style, the mood, maybe not the same appearances of characters (mostly Cogliastro) but still it is almost exact which is great. And since it is an HBO cartoon, it needs to be an adult cartoon with bad language, violence and animated nudity. But that's fine with me.This is definately a must-see DVD and don't get the edited version where it is PG-13...Get this uncut version because if you don't, you'll regret it."
The new Noir for a world engulfed in Shadow

"McFarlane's first few issues of the comic series were inspired, but because of his novice status when it came to writing as well as drawing, not fully developed. In creating the series, he was able to create a more cohesive whole - a chapter in an epic that completes its own arc. The whole series is a terrifyingly good jaunt into the nature of redemption from the shadows of true evil. The animation isn't all that it could be, but the voice acting and sound effects, as well as the use of Dolby Surround, create a whole that bleeds beauty. Watch this in the dark and the volume up - alone, and check your cynicism at the door."

"Ive been a big fan of the spawn comic book since the very first issue. Living in England its not so easy to get hold of the books, or this animated series. The unrated version is fantastic, a really good move from the book to the screen, all the darkness as been brought to us in this dvd. The extra features such as the extra audio track that runs along with the show by Todd is great, lots of interesting stuff here. I really recommend this dvd to all spawn fans especially all of us in England who dot want to pay a fortune for the vhs tapes of it. I cant wait for season 2. END"
