Meeting over the internet can be exciting, confusing, and horrifying. This movie is all about that. A little slow in places but all-in-all, a good movie.

The first time I watched this when it first came out years ago I thought it was so boring but re-watching it, it's very good!! It is slow but it reminds me of the movie Funny Games. It's slow but so suspenseful it keeps you watching because you want to see what happens in the end. I would've gave it 5 stars but there is a lot of loose ends that aren't explained so you have to decide yourself what you think the answer is. Definitely worth watching. :)

This psychological thriller is not for everyone.... That being said I LOVED IT! IT is the perfect cat and mouse scenario. But you don't know the real villain and why til later on in the film. It leaves you thinking holy **** the entire time. I do not recommend this film for men with week stomachs and that are prone to queasiness when seeing a male being tortured.

It was weird. It didn't seem like there was any reason for Hayley's random actions. It seemed choppy. It wasn't entertaining. The character's motivations were all over the place. I would not recommend this movie.

Hard Candy Blu-Ray review
MiRSD | 09/05/2010
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I'll skip the whole summary of the movie as it seems almost every other review covers that. It's definitely outside of the ordinary situation you'd find in movies and I thought it was very entertaining (and creepy!) - instead, I'll focus on the Blu-Ray itself.

Right off the bat, one change from the DVD is the coverart. It's got a 3-way split-view of the 2 actors and the title.. a big change from the original DVD art which was awesome. Nobody seems to enjoy it (and there are some 1-star reviews here about that specifically). But really, who cares? Not as good as the previous art, but not a big deal at all.. you're buying this for the movie. I'm more upset with the "Eco-Case" lionsgate used (with holes cut into the case to "save plastic"? Again though, nothing that would affect the score).

Onto the disc..

VIDEO: I was very surprised with how nice it looked! I was expecting a mediocre transfer on this somewhat "budget" catalog-release.. but Lionsgate did a great job in transferring it. Video is sharp throughout, has great (and accurate) colors, and a layer of grain (nothing distracting though). Very well done, definitely one of the better catalog releases I've seen.. and it's right up there with recent releases.

AUDIO: Again, no let-down here! DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio.. if you have a receiver that takes advantage of it, it'll sound fantastic. Again, in the top of the category (although it's nothing too demanding like a non-stop action movie).

EXTRAS: Comparing it to my original DVD release, all the extras are here. It's got a few featurettes, some commentaries and making-of documentaties (one almost an hour long!). Unfortunately all are in SD, but I'm sure thats the best resolution available as they were made with DVD in mind years ago. Extras aren't anything outstanding, but a decent set.. especially when a lot of catalog titles have been coming out with NO extras from their previous releases.

Overall, highly recommended. Budget title of a great movie with fantastic audio/video and a nice set of extras!"
Phenomenal film

(5 out of 5 stars)

"So many films follow stock plots, have uninspired dialogue, and let you know what the ending is either in the first five minutes, or even earlier, in the trailer. Hard Candy, on the other hand, has a wonderful plot, absolutely brilliant dialogue, and keeps you guessing until the very last moment of the movie. It does so, rather surprisingly, *without* resorting to cheap gimmicks.

Not a word in this film is unnecessary. In a heartbeat, you could side completely with one character, and in the very next, be questioning those very sentiments. Each character is playing each other, and in turn, the audience.

The film's realism makes the horror-like scenes truly disturbing to watch. One of my friends simply walked out, not able to take any more, even though almost nothing was really shown. The implied horror plays terrible games with your own fears, and you find your self cringing at the tiniest, yet unmistakeable sounds.

Hard Candy is not for everyone; but everyone should see it. Even if you don't enjoy it, the film is never uninteresting. It's an experience you won't soon forget."
