Movie Reviews

1st & 10 Complete Collection Boxed Set!

"I was thrilled to see this show again! It is cute, Delta Burke is sassy and adorable in the lead (for the first few seasons). All in all, a great old show! Be sure to buy the boxed-set collection (released 11-5) consists of all 80 episodes on 4 double-sided DVD's in a nice, sturdy sleeve. It is only $19.96, compared to the higher price per season that are being released individually. Definitely a savings! Also, note that although I have seen some customer reviews of "1st & 10" and they were rated low as being edited episodes (for nudity and/or language), according to a representative at Tango Entertainment (the distributor), they are the ORIGINAL & UNCUT episodes. Here is the message I received:

Concerning 1st and 10 Inquiry:

1st and 10: The Complete Collection is the HBO version. To the best of our
knowledge and as confirmed by the producers (Kushner Locke)of this
television program we have the unedited version. In acquiring the
distribution rights to this Series we went back and forth with the producers
to make sure we had the full 50 minute episodes that aired on HBO. The
reason for the language on the box saying some of the episodes may have been
altered from original programming is due to the various masters we received
from the producers. We had both PAL and NTSC masters, however the NTSC
masters were not always used as they were in poor quality.

As the distributor of this title; we did not make any edits to the
programming as delivered from the Producer. We are confident that this
version is the comprehensive and complete original version as assured by the
Producers.

Regards,

Tango Entertainment

Hope this helps!

Better Than Playmakers

"When HBO started to do TV series, One of the first was First and Ten. This 13 episode first season is cute and showcases a woman owner who gets the team in a divorce settlemet. Soapy, Sitcomy and cutey series was great for the late 80's, but seems dated today.

The bigest drawback on this DVD is the canned laughter misplaced in this sitcomy show. Also, with lines like "They aint human, they are football players!" , be glad a very young but seasoned Delta Burke and Reid Shelton lead this ensemble cast.

This DVD is better than that gritty ESPN show Playmakers. One can hope there is a BOX set of all the episodes from all the six seasons soon

"of all the great hbo shows to premiere in the last 10 years, this is hardly up to those standards, but it was the 80's, and if there was a show that tried to catapult the cable giant from a movie/boxing channel to a premiere weekly show channel, this and tales from the crypt were it. 1st and 10 follows the corny trials of a California pro football team from season to season with all the sports cliche situations that are now commonplace in todays sports: drugs, women, longshots, slapstick, etc....it is worth a try, especially if never before seen.. you also have to forgive all the game highlights come from the defunct USFL.....two haunting bits of acting, one is of course O.J., starting in season 2; it is wierd to see him in any movie now, but he shows here that he was a talented actor, not oscar material, but ALOT better than many actors that are around now. Another is John Matuzak(sic?) playing a beatin' down veteran(i believe he appears in season 2), who resorts to steroids to compete with the younger players and has a heart attack during practice. Of course, you know how his real life ended......"
