Unfitting farewell for Murphy

"It is disappointing in many ways that Abandoned is Brittany Murphy's farewell performance. Abandoned is not necessarily a bad movie, but at best it's a derivative bore. It's Flightplan without the plane or Jodie Foster, which is unfortunate for Murphy, because it is only compounded by her gaunt, glazed over appearance. What she didn't need for her legacy is a cinema coup de grace, in which she exudes the symptoms of her actual mortality.
The premise of Abandoned has Murphy starring as a bank executive named Mary who is checking her new boyfriend, Kevin (Dean Cain), into the hospital for a routine procedure. Some time later she can't find Kevin, but is initially reassured by a man named Cooper (Tim Thomerson) who is waiting on his wife. Eventually hospital administrators and psychologists become involved with Mary, whose apprehension quickly turns to apoplexy - causing suspicion into her sanity - when it becomes apparent to Mary there is more to her boyfriend's disappearance.
Overall, the mystery is not sufficient enough to hold attention, the recycled plot not original enough draw interest. The supporting actors are all negligible, and do little more than draw additional attention to Murphy's emaciated impersonation of an unbelievable banking professional. Abandoned is simply a movie to pass the time, nothing extraordinary in any regard."
Big Disappointment

"Every actor has a film that is a stinker but it is a shame that this is the last movie that Brittany Murphy did. I think she was a very good actress and I don't want to remember her in this film. It just was not her best work - not even close. I was very disappointed to say the least."
