The Selling Of The Suburbs
Ejaz | 05/04/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Wow!!!! Who knew that there was a point in time when people wanted to live in the cities and did not want to live in the suburbs. Who knew that the government wanted to get them out of the cities because they were becoming overcrowded and too expensive to manage?

That's what's going on in these 1950s propoganda films that were made in order to scare people into leaving their apartments in the major metropolisies and head off to shiny new suburban housing.

The fact that people had to be scared into the idea of having a yard and sending their kids to nice schools is the astounding message of the films.

What's funny is today the goverenment makes films to get peopel to move back to the cities.

Life is a circle.
