A really groundbreaking series of movies. The first drags a little, but the second hits its stride. Based on the novel by Koushun Takami written in 1996 and published in 1999; over ten years before Suzanne Collins ripped off the premise for the Hunger Games published in 2008. Neither movies were perfect, but while the Hunger Games movies were tepid and predictable Battle Royale 1 and 2 took chances with the stories and the second especially has an important albeit very controversial topic its trying to tackle. I definitely recommend seeing these at least once.
