!!!So Lovable, So Charming, So Psychotic, So Damn Funky!!!
Maastarr | Atlanta, GA United States | 06/18/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I didn't realize writing about something one enjoys so much would be so hard. Guess I'm not the writer type :) I actually purchased this DVD back In April 06 and I can't remember
how many times I've viewed It by now. Lets just say, the first couple of weeks after receiving It, this was the only disc In my player.

I was actually a teenager when this stuff first hit. I still
remember guys In my neighborhood thinking they were Bootsy. The
hair, trying to dress up like him. Running Bootsy lines to all the girls that would listen to them. This was so funny to me. (LOL) I guess I was never so smooth, but nevertheless, I was bittened by the funk bug.

I never got to see him live In his early career. It wasn't until
the mid 90's when I got see him on tour. (Atlanta) This was actually around the same time this DVD was being filmed. (Japan)

Lets get to the good stuff.

You'll have the option of going
straight to the show or the rehearsal footage. I recommend viewing the rehearsal footage first. This will definitely set the stage and give you a view of Bootsy & the band that you'll
never see anywhere else, or unless you travel with them or work
for the arena they are performing at. (I was never so lucky) :P

The cameraman gets close ups as Bootsy tunes the famous "Space Bass" dressed down In ordinary street gear, Bootsy navigates the
band through the song list. Counting measures and putting the band In pocket. There's one particular part where Bootsy gets distracted by Bernie Worrell's (ever-so-funky chops) on the Clavinet. So funny!!! You got to love this kind of footage, coz It's not available anywhere else unless you were there. Oh, I almost forget to tell you to checkout his massive stomp box of pedels & effects units on the floor. I never realize the "Space Bass" has three separate outplugs. (!!!Unbelievable!!!)

You'll definitely see a lot of familier faces In this lineup:

Bernie Worrell (Keys), Joel "Razor Sharp" Johnson (Keys), Gary
"Mudd-Bone" Cooper (Vocals), Frankie "Kash" Waddy (Drums) & more.
I can't leave out Gary "Dee Dee James (Guitar) not from the
original lineup, but definitely holds It down on the "acid trippin" guitar.

Bootsy comes on stage and the Intensity builds before the first
note. This was a pretty large club by the looks of the crowd and
every hand In the place was up In the air. (!!!Pumpin It Up!!!)

Bootsy really reps It like no other In Japan. The sound quality
Is fantasic. Lighting Is lush and clear & the camera guys got
great shots and excellent close ups. I can't find any flews In
this production. I really love this.

I got to end this coz I don't want to give you too much here and
ruin your appetite. I just want to say that Bootsy really
displays his genuine affection, passion and love In this DVD.
Going out Into the audience to touch & spread the love In Japan.

Awesomely, this guys still delivers the funk (Uncut) displaying
his thunderous, open-handed slap on the Space Bass (She still purrs so beautifully) :P

You'll definitely be captivated when this show starts to roll.
You won't want to miss anything, so I'm sure you'll probably end up watching It at least back-to-back the first few times. (I did) :)

Still a bit pricey at the time I purchased this gem. (But
sometimes you have to do what you gotta do.) And I definitely
couldn't wait once I found this DVD. I was actually able to save
about $5 dollars off the this price on another website. But
hopefully by the time you discover this...prices will have
dropped considerably. But If not, Go for It!!! You won't regret
It.

There's so many more great moments In this DVD, but you'll have
to see It for yourself. Bootsy takes you to Bumpschool and then
Bernie cools you out with a somewhat Spiritual-Synth solo. Very
soothing moment for Boosty and the band.

Song List: 1. Ahh...The Name Is Bootsy,Baby., 2. Psychoticbumpschool, 3. The Pinocchhio Theory, 4. Hollywood Squares, 5. Body Slam!, 6. Mothership Connection, 7. Cosmic Slop
8. I'd Rather Be With You, 9. A Sacred Place (RIP), 10. Medley:
Stretchin' Out/Touch Somebody

Ok, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and get yours. Take care.
Peace & Love - Maastarr

Let me hear you say, BOOTSY!

"Really good disc though extremely expensive for us in the States; (40 bucks plus shipping for about 80 minutes of the Funk). It looks and sounds great with the only real draw back (other than the price tag) being the guitarist playing the "Star Spangled Banner," and not doing anywhere near as well as Hendrix did it. If the set was longer I wouldn't even mention it, but why waste precious Funk time on solos? Bernie has a solo which is good, but nothing mind blowing and of course Bootsy goes absolutely ape during "I'd Rather Be with You." The medley of the first 5 tracks is as good as any incarnation of the Rubber Band, and is the highlight of the show. Diehards will most surely pick this up, while the casual fan will probably have to wait for something a bit more inexpensive."
This DVD is THE BOMB

"As an "old school" funk fanatic I can tell you this is still the real deal Bootsy. As mentioned in a previous review the band has aged but it has absolutely nothing to do with the power of the funk 'cause BOOTSY'S still got it. I first saw Bootsy in 1976 opening The P-Funk Mothership Connection Tour and this show is just as good or maybe better. As far as crowd partipation.. THAT"S WHAT THE FUNK HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT! The audience is as much a part of a P-Funk show as the band. This show has great production and sound and the funk is as always ...on the ONE. If you dig the Bootsy P-Funk thang buy it, you won't be sorry."
BOOTSYLICIOUS!!!

"This DVD is a must for all hardcore P-Funk fans and indeed true funkateers everywhere. Bootsy and his players relive their glory years with riveting performances of the the Rubber Band's great hits of the 70s and early 80s ... ("Ahhh.. The Name is Boots, Baby", "The Pinocchio Theory", "Hollywood Squares", "Body Slam", etc) while throwing in spellbinding renditions of of a duo of Funkadelic and Parliament blockbusters for good measure ...("Cosmic Slop" and "Mothership Connection")The camera work too is excellent."
