"This is awesome. This is what we Buddy Rich fans want, it is right there with the best.
Very interesting features also. It leaves me dying to get the Buddy Rich Show DVD when that comes out. That will have Buddy with the best- Mel Torme, Ray Charles, Lionel Hampton, Stan Getz, and more.
Where has this been all our lives? It should have been out in 1982.
Good things come to those who wait.
This is a must have for Buddy fans."

"This was a video that I had great anticipation for. Generally speaking it's pretty good.....especially Buddy. Seeing the various angles of him and being able to 'hot mix' his drums is a great idea and very beneficial.

Here's the rub. The band is severely average. When a big band is wailing, the lead trumpet player has an obligation to lead it! The guy in this band is nearly a joke. I don't recall ever hearing so many bad notes from Buddy's band as this character blew! Now to be fair, I was spoiled by the "Killer Force" section with Ross Konikoff, Dean Pratt and the fabulous Dave Stahl----1976 and 1977. Those guys played Buddy's book like there was no tomorrow! The 'Killer Force' was an incredible era in Buddy's career.

If you are contemplating a Buddy video for the pure enjoyment of his band get the Buddy Rich 'Live in '78" concert. It features a much better band. The views of Buddy are also excellent in this video.

Concerning "Up Close"-----if you can get past the mediocre band the Buddy stuff is great."

"Simply put, Buddy rich had no competition on the drums!
He was the very best!
The worlds greatest drummer, of all time!
He was the very best, at what he did and played!
He coluld play anything, and in any timing!
His hand and foot speeds, were amazingly fast and always correct!
There will never be another Buddy Rich.
If you are able to purchase any of his dvd's, I would reccomend you do so."
