Jay Ward Commercial Collection
E. Watts | 09/17/2007
(3 out of 5 stars)

"The Cap'n Crunch commercials are actually the worst quality video on the disc; messed up colors, faded, several generations removed from the original tape sources, mostly. Cap'n Crunch commercials (27+ minutes; it's not in order, as at least one crunchberry related commercial appears before the "new crunchberries" commercial, and I don't think there's any from after the late '70s/early '80s; I have no idea if it's anywhere close to a complete set for the Ward era Cap'n commercials) are followed by some various Quisp, Quake, Jets, Cherrios, etc commercials (11+ minutes), which are then followed by a bunch of Rocky and Bullwinkle cereal commercials (one live action with Rocky and Bullwinkle premiums; Bullwinkle is very smoothly animated in some of the commercials) (18+ mins). The edits are poor on many of the commercials; extra frames of not one commercial or the next, some commercial tails cut off soon after beginning, etc. The b&w stuff looks pretty good on most of the tape tho (a handful of Cap'n, half the Quisp/Quake, and most of the Bullwinkle stuff), even if the originals were in color.
In spite of the problems, I still like the disc, but then I've been having a hankering for animated cereal commercials recently that YouTube has been insufficient in meeting. I'd gladly buy more volumes of similarly questionable quality covering other runs of animated cereal comercials, and the better quality (and more material included) the better."
