Movie Reviews

Not a great video--no Band of Gypsies, Electric Flag,Santana

"This DVD disappointed me--although it contains 2 concerts from his recent bands which are OK, I was looking for some Classic Miles Video footage from his Changes era (Buddy Miles Band), Band of Gypsies with Hendrix, lead singer of Santana (a great album) and Electric Flag with Michael Bloomfield. I know some must exist--those were the times he was really something--great vocalist, great drummer and that defining huge Afro--this is the Miles I remember. The concerts on ths DVD are from 1995 and 2003--when he did nor look well and was way overweight. It looked like he could not around by himself very well. Alot of the times he was sitting on the stage with a guitar and singing. I wanted him to play the drums and sing but I guess he was not well. The documentary on the DVD was ok but it seemed rushed and his take on his career was too short at times. I know there is other video footage out there like the cover of this DVD--that is the stuff I want to see. I am sure collectors of his stuff would agree. Bring on Electric Flag and Band of Gypsies and Santana."

"Wow. This was a very cheap dvd. I didn't expect much of it. I put it in the player. first song. Buddy is counting. And then.....bang! I was completely overwhelmed. This is great. Superb heavy but soulful rock music. Fantastic drumming and sound from Buddy. Good bass and guitarwork. Image isn't fantastic but audio is absolutely great. Good deep power sound. Sometimes they sound like Grand funk Railroad! Good band, good drummer, good dvd. Love it! Also included are some extra tracks, documentary and audio cd with a completely different jazz show with organ and saxophone. 5 stars to me!"
Good but.....

"As a huge Buddy Miles fan (from the Them Changes era) I was anxious to get this DVD! Well, Miles's drumming still holds up but, the vocals were dissapointing! Not from Buddy himself but the two other players. Mind you they're instrument playing was quite good but not there vocal technique! I was saddened to hear of Buddy's passing. The world lost a great talent and was up there as one of the best "funk" and "rock" drummers of our time! So buying this just to see Buddy's performance was worth it!"
