Movie Reviews

Great music ruined by sloppy production
Bill Egan | Florida USA | 11/30/2004
(1 out of 5 stars)

"This DVD is wonderful if you listen but don't look. The audio is out of synch with the video and the entire visual presentation of "O Holy Night" is horrendous. The people on the DVD are some of Europe's greatest opera stars so I was looking forward to a nice hour of entertainment. Instead, I was very disappointed with the poor quality of this DVD. If it were a CD, it would rate much more than the 1 star.

There is a narration that intrudes after every few songs. While Tony Randall is okay as the narrator, the writers didn't provide him with a factual script. You have to ignore most of the stories that are told about the carols."
A serious waste of amazing talent
P. Mann | Los Angeles | 12/18/2008
(3 out of 5 stars)

"This DVD seems to have been pasted together from a variety of sources. Many of those sources are outstanding talents, but the technical problems in the production make these performances less than the best. The structure of the DVD is also somewhat odd. Tony Randall sits in a chair before a Christmas tree as he tells children some trivia about Christmas and Christmas carols. Though Tony Randall is interesting, the scenes are so awkward that they are almost unintentionally humorous. The children do not appear interested in the least in the lectures, and since the ostensible purpose of the DVD is the music, I am inclined to agree with them."
