Sweet Sweet Spirit

"This beautiful interlude at Ronnie Scotts, the famous musicians Club in London, truly shows what a compassionate and sensitive human being and musician Curtis Mayfield really was. This is him and a wonderful group of musicians putting down a rare piece of "soul history". Get it and keep it for those times when your soul needs feeding - it is one of those gems in a vast sea of material that strikes a cord with most people."
One of the greats

"I loved this DVD, if you want to check out one of the most gifted and influential American singer-songwriters this DVD is a great place to start. I am a total fan of Curtis Mayfield's music, I will admit -- his work with the Impressions in the 1960s up to his later solo releases sets a high standard. Here is a guy with a unique style who influenced so many other artists, everyone from Bob Dylan to Bob Marley to Jimi Hendrix. Yeah the band is a little stiff on here but they do a good job in general. Curtis performs some of his best tunes, some very well known, others more obscure. The music throughout is excellent and the sound and picture are top-notch on this disc. In the interviews Curtis comes across as a very sweet and humble spirit, and being a musician myself he is an inspiration to me both personally and musically. I'm glad that there were people who had the wit to document Curtis' contributions with films like this one."
Definitely the 80's...

"Curtis no doubt was a soldier, troubadour and genius... but the '80s (assumingly pick-up) band with feathered hair, US flag tank tops and Yamaha DX-7 sounds definitely reminds you how bad music got for a while in the 80s... Still this video is a rare opportunity to see Curtis, the genius, at work. I don't think there's much else out there... so its great that he was caught in action. - - Incidentally, don't laugh too hard if you've seen the scene where Curtis appeared in Superfly at that club with the pimps and gangsters at this place... The folks at Ronnie Scott's are definitely quite a bit... different..."
