I am a total fan of Curtis Mayfield's music, I will admit -- his work with the Impressions in the 1960s up to his later solo releases sets a high standard. Here is a guy with a unique style who influenced so many other artists, everyone from Bob Dylan to Bob Marley to Jimi Hendrix. Yeah the band is a little stiff on here but they do a good job in general. Curtis performs some of his best tunes, some very well known, others more obscure. The music throughout is excellent and the sound and picture are top-notch on this disc. In the interviews Curtis comes across as a very sweet and humble spirit, and being a musician myself he is an inspiration to me both personally and musically. I'm glad that there were people who had the wit to document Curtis' contributions with films like this one." Definitely the 80's... I don't think there's much else out there... so its great that he was caught in action. - - Incidentally, don't laugh too hard if you've seen the scene where Curtis appeared in Superfly at that club with the pimps and gangsters at this place... The folks at Ronnie Scott's are definitely quite a bit... different..."
