Movie ReviewsDilip beats Shah Rukh Luc Boardwalk, | Denver CO | 12/30/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "This 1955 film version of Devdas lacks the modern Bollywood polish of the 2002 edition. However, it follows the original story much more closely. For example, the 2002 movie skips several opening chapters of the story in which Devdas and Parvati are children.
More importantly, I think Dilip Kumar makes a far better leading man than Shah Rukh Khan. Kumar exercises a good bit more subtlety than Kahn. Granted, Madhuri Dixit lends some spectacular singing and dancing to the 2002 version, but overall, you won't regret taking the time to compare this earlier version with the modern one." |
