Dwight Scores!
Alexander J. Cervantes | Fresno, CA USA | 12/02/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This dvd provides an introduction to one of Country Music's neo-traditionalists. Dwight pays homage to some of his major musical influences. There are short interviews of Dwight which attempt to provide a sense of intimacy and which link together the musical performances. While listening to Dwight's words and viewing some of his early childhood photos, one can perceive his sincerity and the devotion he has for his music and for his favorite artists. Dwight's voice is strong and energetic and the music is sensational. Dwight is one of those artists who can make an old song sound new and yet, make it distinctively his own. Such is the case in "Honky Tonk Man" and "Little Sister." He's having a fun time in "Always Late With Your Kisses" and in the "Streets Of Bakersfield" (a duet with Buck Owens). His hard-driving sound is fully demonstrated in "Guitars, Cadillacs" and in "Long White Cadillac" (remembering the fatal last ride of Hank Williams). All of these songs are hits and my only regret is that there are only six songs and the total time of this dvd is only about 30 minutes. I need more Dwight! Overall, this dvd is great because of Dwight's talent, sincerity, joyous humor and intensity. If you have not seen Dwight in a live performance, this dvd is the next best thing. You'll play it again and again."

"This video collection is the best of Dwight Yoakam. It includes "Honky Tonk Man," "Guitars, Cadillacs," "Little Sister," "Always Late With Your Kisses," "Streets of Bakersfield," and "Long White Cadillac." There are clips of an interview and a live accoustic performance including the band."
An original singer, a real honky tonker!
Rizzo | Denver, CO | 05/25/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Honky tonk music originated in the postwar era when country music took a turn for the bawdy barrooms, drinking, fighting, cheatin' and plenty of sex. It's a style of its own and the kings of honky tonk were known as Hank Williams, Lefty Frizzel, Hank Thompson. It's clear to see that these people were his influence. And it's no surprise that one of the earlier hits is titled "Honky Tonky Man." "Long White Cadillac" is written that Hank Williams is in the back seat of his cadillac for his last ride. "Always Late With Your Kisses" was previously recorded by Lefty Frizzel. The video is refreshing with a doo-wop look. Included are "Little Sister", "Guitar, Cadillacs" "Streets of Bakersfield" with Buck Owens and the original hitmaker on that song in the 70s. Dwight's musical style changed a little after these recordings. He only got better! If you are new to Dwight, you will enjoy a genuine country singer who has deserved more!"

"this is another great video collection. now keep in mind this is an old one. but the videos are great and they are from a time when yoakam was still fairly new.in other words its an 80s hits kinda thang- and there's nothing wrong with that at all cause some of his best stuff was in the 1980's. so if your into dwight yoakam and you want some of his early work on video. this is the one to have... a wonderful video hits to own. thanks your your time. hillbilly katz."
