Movie Reviews

There is a better version
Thomas Cannold | 01/28/2009

"This is the same concert as: Earth Wind & Fire - Live
The video in this version is "widescreen", but really it's distorted, compressing the image down as it widens it out. The result: Maurice White looks short and fat; not likely.

The concert itself, while only an hour long is, I think, the best sonically available on DVD, and there is a contagious spirit in the performance. It's only an hour long, and sure, some songs are missed, but it's deeply satisfying...if you get the one with the better (non-widescreen) video."
Better than most EWF videos

"This is actually a pretty good concert video. EWF seems to have the full range of videos, from the completely terrible to the pretty good, but I have yet to find that totally awesome recording. I have been sampling all the EWF DVDs I can find over the last few weeks, and this is the best of all the ones I've found so far.

The performance is better than usual, everyone seems to have energy and to be feeling the groove, which is not always true about EWF concert videos (especially "Live at Red Rocks," what a loser that show was.) They play good funked-up live versions of most of the best tunes. The videography is good (not too choppy or spastic like the attention deficit MTV style so popular these days). Another reviewer complained about the video being stretched but it looked normal on my tv.

As I said, I've been on a quest to find the best EWF DVD to buy, and so far this is the only one that's made it into my shopping cart. ["Live by Request" might also have made it into my cart except all the senseless blabbering between tunes ruined the mood for me.] This Live in Tokyo video has good performances of their classics with a decent live atmosphere."
