Jackie Greene: Broken Hearts Dusty Roads

"There's no question that Broken Hearts, Dusty Roads is thoroughly entertaining the first few times through. The real question is, what keeps bringing me back again and again (and again)?Quite simply, Jackie Greene is one of the most engaging performers out there today. He draws the audience right into the moment with him and then holds them captive. Though nothing equals a live, in your face performance, Broken Hearts, Dusty Roads is the next best thing in casting that spell. This DVD's musical performances are top notch, displaying immeasurable talent and versatility in both performing and songwriting. It illustrates that Greene is a true artist whether his canvas is at the keyboard, guitar or harmonica, using his voice as an instrument or painting us a lyrical picture.New songs from the upcoming CD "Sweet Somewhere Bound" entice us while old friends from Greene's first two CD's Rusty Nails and Gone Wonderin are revisited. All of which leave us wanting more.
And although comparisons are made from Bob Dylan to Tom Waits to Stevie Ray Vaughan to a slew of blues, folk, country, and rock talent, Broken Hearts, Dusty Roads will prove to you that Jackie Greene is an original and well within his bounds to show himself in that light. The interview segments are just as entertaining. What I found most interesting was the candid correlation between the songwriter and his music. It would only make sense that songs possessing such gut level honesty, integrity and complexity would be in direct relation to the artist himself. As in his music, I found Greene to be honest, sincere, displaying great humility and absolutely no pretense. Lighthearted as well as complex and very often humorous. Did I mention endearing? Greene refers to himself as quite possibly being lazy-well,God given talent aside, based on his catalog of music and the mastery of his craft at age 23 I can't imagine there have been too many lazy moments on this mans agenda.Greene relays during one segment that his objective when performing is to first get the audience attention. Once he has that attention, to say something. At the end, try and blow their mind. Mission accomplished, Mr. Greene.Watch, listen, see for yourself."
A Great Introduction to Jackie Greene

"I've been hearing about Jackie Greene for two years but never went out of my way to see him. After checking out his CDs on Amazon I liked his music and decided to order this DVD as a way to see what this guy is all about. He's often been compared to Bob Dylan and I really wanted to know who could compare to the the incomparable Bob Dylan. But, WOW!!! Jackie Greene is a ball of talent! The DVD showcases his outstanding talent as a songwriter, musician and singer. He plays a variety of instruments (guitar, harmonica, Hammond) and shows off his amazing talent for song writing in a variety of styles (blues, rock, folk, and soft ballads like Sweet Somewhere Bound). Mixed between songs is Jackie himself talking about his life and his music. He comes though as an old soul with wisdom and human emotion that far exceeds his 23 years of age. Comparable to Dylan? Definitely! But, also unique with his own sound and style. Keep your eye on him. He's young, he's mega-talented, and, for now, he comes at a bargain. Buy this CD, meet Jackie Greene and be prepared to become an instant admirer."
Great DVD

"A truly entertaining video that I've watched over and over. Jackie does a great job on all the songs, showing his mastery of great songs ranging from slow piano ballads to fast blues rock numbers.I particulary enjoyed hearing his new songs on his upcoming album: Sweet Somewhere Bound, Sad to Say Goodbye, and Don't Mind Me, I'm Only Dying Slow. This DVD is a great sampling of his ability to play acoustic and electric guitar, piano, and harmonica and also offers some satisfying glimpses into who he is.If you like Jackie Greene, you'll love this. If you're not familiar with him, I highly recommend it."
