Movie Reviews

25 Years in the Making
William Hoffknecht | Fernley, NV | 12/29/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"For those of you that are unaware, which most people are, Jandek is one of the most prolific and outsider musicians that there is or ever has been. This DVD is a recording of his first ever show, filmed in 2004, after 25 years of releasing albums, and not just a few, I believe he ahd put out something like 45 albums when he finally played this completely unadvertised concert. Since this recording, he has still only played a few more shows.

As for the recording, the sound quality is alright, nothing amazing though and the picture is of rather great quality, but it is truthfully not that interesting of a concert show wise. Jandek plays some great songs (In the opinion of Jandek fans, but you may disagree), but does not add too much to the performance.

The real reason to watch this though is to see the man/legend sing and move and play. Because he is so reclusive, this is almost shocking to actually see Jandek himself sing these very dark songs. He is also sort of a spooky-looking guy and with his ghostly voice it does add to the songs. It takes a lot to frighten me, and watching that voice actually come out of that man was a bit scary. I do like it though.

This DVD I owned and wanted to own for history. I am a collector of music and memorabilia, so I had to have this show in my collection.

I do not recommend this for people who are into pop/mainstream music, but if you are into outsider/experimental types, it is a must own, and if you are a Jandek fan (If you can call us that, more like a Jandek voyeur), then I highly recommend this item."
