Movie Reviews

Mance Has Got Something for You
Anthony Graybosch | Land of Arnold | 01/02/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This dvd is a pleasant surprise. Lipscomb plays some of his best songs for a small audience of characters from an Austin Powers film sitting on folding chairs in what must be a high school classroom. Could that be me in the black horn rim glasses and white shirt and tie smoking a cigarette during "You Gotta See Your Mama Every Night?" The show is in color. It runs about an hour and features some of Lipscomb's best numbers. If you like Lipscomb it's a must. Thanks to whomever unearthed this treasure."
Mance Lipscomb - In Concert

"This Vestapol DVD is another in the long line of incredible and rare videos offered by Stefan Grossman. It documents a 1969 television concert by Mance Lipscomb for KRLU TV in Texas. The Songster is in fine form during this intimate show in a small room, in front of a very small audience. He plows through a wide variety of his huge repertoire of blues, rags and spirituals. This DVD clocks in at 58 minutes, and is accompanied by excellent liner notes written by Lipscomb biogapher Glen Alyn. It is highly recommended for Lipscomb and acoustic blues fans alike."
