"Mickey Rooney (born Joe Yule Jr.) has the longest career in Hollywood history-- 81 years of moviemaking, as of Jan. '08. At age six Mickey played a midget in a 1926 non-talkie called "Not To Be Trusted." From 1927 to '32, Rooney appeared in a continuous string of over 50 "Mickey McGuire" shorts, all of which were entitled "Mickey's ......." The series continued intermittently until 1936. In 1937, Rooney took on the part of Andy Hardy, a character he would portray 16 times, until Andy's return from WWII in 1946, and once more in 1958, when he had a son named Andy Jr. After over 300 screen and TV roles and still working at age 87, Mickey Rooney will appear in four movies in 2008.
CONTENTS of MICKEY ROONEY: FOREVER YOUNG 4 Movie Pack:
THE BIG WHEEL-- Billy's the son of a race car driver killed at Indianapolis Speedway. He takes a job as a mechanic at a California track, and when he becomes a driver Billy must consider the possibility of racing at Indy. Look for a brief appearance by western character actor Denver Pyle as a track intern.
LOVE LAUGHS AT ANDY HARDY-- Back from WWII, Andy returns to college and hopes to pick up where he left off with Kay, the girl he met there prior to the war.
MY OUTLAW BROTHER-- A Mickey Rooney western! On his way to visit his brother who's part of an outlaw group in Mexico, a NYC boy meets up with a Texas Ranger also searching for the gang and their notorious leader, "El Tigre."
QUICKSAND-- When an auto mechanic hits the garage's cash register for $20 so he can go on a date, the shortage is soon discovered and events rapidly spiral out of control. Co-stars Jimmy Cagney's sister and directed by character actor Irving Pichel.
BROADWAY'S BEST 4 Movie Pack (also from BCI / Eclipse) is a nice musical sampling of Hollywood's Golden Age.
BRENTWOOD's 4-fers are nicely priced movie bundles. Video and sound quality of these digitally unrestored public domain films is generally fine. Discs are dual-side recorded.
