Movie Reviews

Not just for fitness professionals!

"I bought this DVD combo just for the "Medicine Ball Training" segment as I love working out with medicine balls; as another reviewer commented, medicine ball workouts are hard to find. This is a challenging one-hour workout that will kick your butt - literally!

Mindy does the entire workout on a bridge in a Japanese garden, demonstrating that you don't need a lot of room - a bonus for those of us who have a small workout space. She starts with a 4 pound medicine ball, then switches to a 6 pounder.

After a thorough warm-up, Mindy moves into a standing legwork section which employs lots of lunges and squats while holding the medicine ball, including lunges where you kick your own butt. In one exercise, you stand on one leg while holding the ball against your hip, then reach down and touch the floor in front of you, to the side, then behind you. This is a lot tougher than it looks!

Moving on to floorwork, there are adductor lifts and reverse curls with the ball clenched between your legs, and "supermans" while holding the ball between your outstretched hands. The added resistance of the medicine ball makes these traditional moves a lot more challenging. Other exercises include split push-ups with one hand on the ball, push-ups with both hands on the ball, stabilisation in plank position with both hands on the ball while lifting one leg, and some non-traditional ab work.

During the stretching segment, Mindy remarks, "You can intensify this workout by getting bigger balls." There's a long pause as she realises what she's just said, then adds, "Don't take that wrong, now!" (Somehow I think this remark will make me laugh every time I do the workout!)

Mindy Mylrea is a great proponent of functional fitness (the fitness used in sports and everyday activities). As she says here and on other DVDs, there's no point in being strong unless you know how to use that strength. This is a challenging, fun workout that will improve your balance, coordination and agility and is a great complement to traditional weights work."
Excellent product!! Would recommend highly!

"All 3 dvd's are awesome. Mindy has such a great teaching style. I especially loved partner medicine ball and slammin' sports training. As a personal trainier, I got a lot of great ideas for my clients and for my own workouts. It's hard to find dvd's and videos that actually show a lot of strength training exercises. I bought this 3 pack especially because it involved working with medicine balls and a bosu, which are 2 of my favorites. Great value too!"

"I am a male fitness professional recently trying to get back into shape for co-ed indoor soccer. Haven't played in 10 years, not overweight, but now lacking in agility and conditioning. After only 3 workouts with the medicine ball and this DVD (it's not easy!)- my agility has made substantial improvements. This is a great medicine ball workout. There aren't many medicine ball workouts on DVD out there. This is a great one."
