Movie Reviews

Excellent first video for your child...
G. Murphy | Florida | 02/02/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"My husband and I are/were in education. We have also purchased and reviewed hundreds of kiddo videos over the past 15 years. This one is pretty good for 8 months to 2 years (box says 8 months to 5 years). For ABC's the BEST video out there currently IMO is Rusty and Rosy's ABC's and such. They repeat the alphabet so many different ways that you can't help but learn it! I have not seen it done in such a good way in any other video. Other EXCELLENT ABC videos are the Leap Frog Phonics videos (I can't recall the titles...Leapfrog Letter Factory, Word Factory, etc),and two EXCELLENT (old)videos were done by Sesame Street (I'm just being honest about this even though I am NOT a fan of Sesame Street.)They are called, Sesame Street LEARNING ABOUT LETTERS and Sesame Street LEARNING ABOUT NUMBERS. If you are only getting ONE counting video, let it be Richard Scarry's BEST COUNTING VIDEO EVER. There is not enough space to discuss how wonderful Richard Scarry's work is. If you are thinking about getting the Baby Einstein stuff, pleEEEEase get over it and get this one instead! Then for learning animals, get National Geographics GEO KIDS for age under 5 and National Geographic's REALLY WILD ANIMALS for ages 4-8. As a first or only animal video, though, get BRAINY BABY ANIMALS--it's WAY BETTER than the Baby Einstein video!!! None of it is as "hyper" as the Baby Einstein stuff. Can we stay a bit more real instead of putting the kids in front of videos containing flying animal toys and rapid flashing images with constant changing of gears (Baby Einstein)? It doesn't help the kids to gain an attention span. If you MUST get a Baby Einstein video, the animal video IS the best one of that group (I've seen them all)...but please don't ...I'm sure your kid would like it, though...poor kid."
Appropriate if you're brainwashing your baby

"My wife and I have bought quite a few educational videos so far for our 11-month-old, and this is by far the worst. It is extremely repetitive-- it consists of the same exact computer-animated spinning shapes with numbers on them repeated over and over, which quickly bored our baby. It's literally the same thing over and over and over. In addition, the whole thing has a weird feel, almost as if it's an attempt at hypnotism. My wife noticed this separately from me. It's hard to explain.

The Mozart music playing faintly in the background can't save it, either. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money, or you may wind up throwing it in the garbage as we did. I think it would actually make a child less intelligent to watch this DVD often."
Blessing for Children on the Spectrum

"Easy to understand why a parent of a typical child would not appreciate this product, but if your child is on the "Spectrum" this DVD is probably one of the very best. This repetitive DVD is perfect for a child finding his or her voice. Two of our children are autistic and we credit this product for giving them a chance to discover language. The hypnotic quality of the DVD probably is creepy to a parent of a "typical" child, but when you are wondering if your child will ever speak, it is hard to describe the pure joy of hearing your child walk around the house counting things while he or she mimics the DVD. This DVD is getting some bad reviews and it would be an absolute shame for someone who really needed it to pass it up. We would give this product 10 stars if we could. Wish every child who needed it could get it. Good Luck."
