Movie Reviews

Looks fake to me
Ribald | Palm Harbor, FL United States | 10/18/2006
(2 out of 5 stars)

"On the plus side, you get "snow" drifting past pines which is pleasantly relaxing. Each of the 6 wintry vistas last about ten minutes which is good for a relaxation video. The constant image changes in some other videos are somewhat jarring and spoil the relaxing effect of just sitting and watching nature for a while. On the minus side, I'm pretty sure this isn't actually nature. The "snow" looks computer generated and overlaid against a background of pine tree photos. It's not bad as far as particle effects go, but I got a little suspicious when none of the six segments on the video showed much or any of the ground where one might expect to see the snow start to accumulate. Then I found that some of the flutters and swirls of snow happened at regular and predictable intervals (hey, when you're watching snow fall, what else do you have to do but watch the way it swirls and flutters). The more I watched it, the faker it started to look. I have another snowfall video to compare it to and there's simply no comparison. This one looks fake. The other one looks real.
I was also looking forward to some pleasant ambient music to lull me into relaxation while I watched the snow fall, but the ambient tracks on this video are truly awful and don't match the mood at all. They sound sort of like a cat casually walking up and down a synthesizer keyboard."
Snowfall through your remote wilderness cabin window
annesailorgirl | Berrien Spgs, MI USA | 09/05/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Pretend you are in a remote wilderness cabin, in winter. Now pretend that you are looking out of your window at the snow drifting down through the forest. This is what this DVD is like, for a full 60 minutes. It is simple, relaxing, window or eye-level views of snow falling against the pines. There are 6 chapters with different views of pines and snow to choose from, although you can simply play all 6 in order. Some scenes are snowier than others, and some appear to be near-blizzard, while in other scenes the snow drifts slowly down.

Your audio options are:
1. Ambient (music tracklist: Anniu, Powder, Ganuk, Auksalak, New Over, Qali)
2. Natural (wind in the pines)
3. Ambient + Natural (music plus nature sounds)
4. Silence

Each of the six chapters can be set to loop on their own, if you want the same scene replayed out of your "imaginary" cabin window. This is truly a relaxing DVD. My favorite audio setting is the Natural sounds, but the Ambient music is growing on me as I listen to it. Watching the snow come down makes me want to curl up with a cup of hot cocoa. It is a cozy, soothing picture of winter snow. This is exactly what I expected from a DVD with this description."
Disappointed

"This wonderful dvd is great on my little computer but is unreadable on our expensive dvd/vcr player in our living room! Of course, that is where we had hoped to be able to enjoy it! Any ideas?"
Super Snow Storms with Great Natural Sounds + More1
Micster | Florida, USA | 11/20/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a super CD of several winter scenes with the white stuff coming down! Just right to get you in the mood for the Christmas season. Also great to put in right after you get done watching White Christmas (pay attention to the SNOW song, you'll want to sing it when you start watching this...

Really, this is a great high quality CD with a variety of six snow scenes which show various intensities of (you guessed it) snow! The user can select run once, loop, or multi-scene play. The snow looks totally real in these scenes, and there is different natural sounds that go with the different snow scenes. For example, in one scene where the white stuff is really beginning to pound down, you can here the wind distantly howling in the pines... its great. It also comes with a nice selection of music that can be played along with the scenes.

Also, this CD is great to fall asleep to! (Don't laugh, you'll nod off too.) Anyone who like the "Fireplace" type CDs and who is a fan of watching winter, or who wants to get into the Christmas season and snow will be delighted with this item! All the joy and fun of watching it snow, without the need to shovel later. Heh heh... Fun!"
