"When the title of a DVD is "Ninja Vixens - Devilish Angels", no one should be expecting a film of depth and substance. I always compare this series to the light-hearted sex comedies from the 80's, like Ski School and H.O.T.S.. They are cheesy, but fun.
This film, the third in the series, follows the adventures of two lovely women. One Anju (Jyouan Miki) is a trained assassin, a Ninja Vixen. The other, Yuki, is an innocent and buxom country orphan on her own. Anju falls into some trouble with three guys who think they can take advantage of her. Yuki tries to help, but when Anju reveals her true nature as a Ninja Vixen, it is the men who need assistance. Astounded by Anju strength, Yuki begs Anju to take her under her wing and teach her to be a Ninja Vixen too. The problem is, Anju is night quite as perfect as she seems. She is on the run from another Ninja Vixen, Orchid, for breaking the rules of their order and killing people for money. Hijinks ensue.
I enjoy the "Ninja Vixens" series because I know exactly what I am getting myself into. Some funny slapstick comedy and some pretty naked girls are all I really require. I have always been impressed by the production values in this series, as they are actually quite good for this kind of B-movie pink film. Even though this series was produced in the 90's, the costumes are all bright colors and look like leftovers from an 80's aerobics video. Yes, they are silly, but call it a guilty pleasure if you must.
"Devilish Angels" is a pretty typical entry in the series, combining sexy ninja antics with some bizarre horror elements (talking penis anyone?) The storyline is passable, and a little darker than some of the overly-comedic entries like Vixen Dropouts. There really should be a whole lot more nudity, and there is as the series progresses. It is more bare legs and "fan service" with only a few glimpses of topless goodness. For a pink film, they are pretty tame but I have enjoyed them enough to watch most of the series.
Since the release of the complete box set, there is no real reason to pick these up individually. That is clearly the way to go. If your expectations aren't too high, you can have some fun with these flicks."
