Good performance / distracting camera shots

"I was thrilled when this DVD became available recently and I bought one right away, since this performance has not been available until now on DVD.

Peter Frampton gives an enthusiastic and energetic performance. Being a casual fan, I liked the hit songs, "Show Me the Way," "Nassau/Baby I Love Your Way," "Do You Feel Like We Do?" and "I'm in You." On "Do You Feel Like We Do?" a female fan runs up and kisses PF and he is pleasantly surprised by that interruption.

Frampton's band is excellent; the keyboardist and bassist have both been with him for a long time. Frampton only plays his signature black Les Paul on a number of the songs, the lovely "Lines of My Face" and the solo on "Do You Feel Like We Do?" He plays different guitars throughout the set, a sunburst Les Paul, a Telecaster, and other Gibson guitars.

I give this DVD only 3 stars for two reasons: a) the distracting camera shots, and b) the lack of special features. The camera shots were very annoying and distracting. It kept darting back and forth from shots of Frampton, then the audience, then the guitar, then a close-up, then a far shot, and back to Frampton again. I wished the camera could have stayed on Frampton and then keyed in on his guitar when he was playing the solos. Secondly, this DVD could have offered some special features. I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed with this DVD.

I have the DVD of Frampton's most recent performance in Detroit. I prefer the Detroit DVD to this one. I felt that Frampton's playing in Detroit was better, the camera shots were on the band most of the time, and there was an excellent personal interview of PF in the special features. I would recommend to all PF fans that you buy the Detroit DVD instead of this one. You may also want to check out PF's awesome guitar playing and singing on the "Best of Ringo Starr -- So Far" DVD. There he plays mind-blowing guitar along with Jack Bruce singing the Cream song "Sunshine of Your Love"; PF also sings a cover of the Beatles "Norwegian Wood" on acoustic guitar. I really loved his performances on the "Best of Ringo Starr" DVD. Check it out!

"A great, fun performance by Frampton and his backing trio is marred by awful DVD mastering. The audio constantly changes volume levels. The disc kicks off promisingly with Frampton's sole guitar scorching through the amps, but when the rest of the band's instruments join him, the volume of the DVD shifts. This happens throughout the two-hour concert, making it unlistenable. The camera work is a bit too frantic at times, but I could forgive that, had the DVD's audio been mastered at the same sound level throughout the video. But it's not, and it's a shame. It pains me to write this, because Frampton is such a wonderful, underrated musician. I think he sounds better on this DVD than he did in the mid-1970s, and he sounds even better today. Check out PBS's "Sound Stage" concert with Frampton on TV. The guy is a beast on the guitar.
Hopefully Universal/Hip-O will remaster this DVD with consistent audio levels."

"This is actually a very spirited performance with some excellent playing from Peter and the band. The video is cut very fast in the 90s MTV video style. I did get the same sound track issues when I played the DVD on my computer in both stereo and Dolby 5.1 downmix. And obvious mastering issue. However, when I play it on my home theater system in DTS 5.1 it sounds perfect. So if you have DTS 5.1 available this is a great addition. I also have the Detroit concert and I think this is pretty much equal in performance, but the Detroit is the better first buy.

"This video is a polished perfomance that is well worth buying, if you are like me and saw the original Frampton Comes Alive! concert in person in 1975. Although the long hair is gone, everything else is here with the following songs:
