Great .... but too new to old time rage fan like me...

"Finally I got rage DVD today. I've been a huge RAGE fan since 1991 when I bought their album SECRETS IN A WEIRD WORLD. This DVD is totally worth to buy for their fan.... They looks a lot better than before. On live (DVD1) they are playing very profesionally(This does not mean they were not profesional). they looks new their sound is great and great live performance. But I feel something strange to them. mmmm.... They are not old time RAGE anymore. They are not RAGEous, and not wild. As time goes by almost all bands are getting better, more profesional look, and smooth playing and performance. But that is not for all fans. And that is why I give them 4 stars instead of 5. But they also give their old time video clips for the old fans like me. Old fans Must watch DVD2. They are real RAGE on it. Great DVD, must buy......."

"I picked this up from Amazon's German store where it is already available. The edition I recieved includes both the double DVD and double CD versions of the show. It's quite nicely packaged too.

Anyway, the quality of the DVD/CD, the performances and the features are all first rate. Victor Smolski's live guitar sound is unbelievable. He is the best relatively unknown guitarist around at the moment. Not only is the live guitar sound impressive, the overall sound is perfect. The is no muddiness in the sound at all and Peavey's vocals are for the most part, first class. On a couple of tracks, such as All I Want and Back In Time, he stuggles a bit to hit the higher notes (even though they aren't really very high) , but overall he does a very good job. I love his voice, it's quite unique and extremely melodic (an overused word that I hate, but it's true here). All up, this has to be one of the sharpest sounding live recordings I've ever heard. I really didn't expect it either. Bands like Dream Theater and Rush (I would think) have more money to throw around, but the sound here is better than I've heard from them. Much better.

The first thing that you notice when watching the DVD (apart from the quality of the performances) is that it was shot in such a small club. Most DVD's that I see are shot at big shows, with huge crowds, but this DVD has a different atmosphere altogether. It's a good atmosphere too. Largely thanks to the tasteful editing. There are no silly swipes or swirls for scene transitions. No slow motion or arty photography. Instead, what we see is RAGE playing their brilliant music, the way we'd see them if we were there. The picture quality is superb and wide-screen too.

The second DVD features a great making-of documentary that does a good job explaining the history of the band and features plenty of interviews with all band members. Wagner and Smolski have subtitles and Terrana speaks English. Plenty of video-clips are also included and surprisingly, they aren't too cheesy. A couple of studio recording sessions are also included. A complete discography is present too.

No RAGE fan could really ask for more. It's the complete package from probably the best metal band on the planet right now.

"Awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!! Victor Smolski is a guitar god. His sound is unbelievable. Rage has only gotten better over the years. This DVD proves that fact. The old songs done with this lineup sound so much better its unreal. Peavy has one of the most unique voices in metal you just can't miss it. If your a musician Victor and Mike Terrana are amazing to watch. This is the second DVD from SPV I have purchased the other is Kreator. Both packages are well worth the money. The quality of the live video is great and the sound it stellar. THe second Dvd has a history of the band which is really interesting, Terrana is a funny guy. Then you get to see all the videos and witness all the lineup changes watch the band members go. You also get to hear how the bands sound and production get so much better over the years. If you like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth or more technical bands like coroner or cynic buy this and check it out. Their last 3 albums Welcome to the other side, Unity and Soundchaser are amazing. If you are a musician and into metal you cant lose. A amazing band totally unknown in America."
